Classic MB encounter on the freeway

I managed to snap at picture while passing this immensely well maintained old MB on the freeway the other day.
I can't remember the model number, but i'm sure you guys can enlighten me.

She claims it runs. Last I checked it was pushing $7K. I've seen 60's prime examples going for 60-140k. A '56 has got to be pretty rare. Thats only 11 yrs after war end, and I bet they weren't producing many cars. Someone might end up with the beginnings of one hell of a vintage Mercedes.

Had a chance to buy a nice 55 about 1987 for 12 K we had in the shop I worked at at that time for about a year ,I drove it several times amazing how well it handled .The steering was a bit truck like at low speeds but it really smoothed out at speed.......
