Spicy Hot & Beverage

We all know that spicy and hot foods, along with the appropriate beverage, is one way to beat the summer heat. The combination of scoville units, capsaicinoids, endorphins and perspiration are nature's way of keeping your temps down in the summer swelter.

Fried chicken, sauced with those small red Thai chili peppers and sweet chili sauce, along with super chilled beer is one of my favorite ways of beating the heat.

Got any suggestions, both food & beverage?

I live in the tropics and when I go to my MILīs ranch (there it is "Africa Hot!" there is nothing better than an ICE COLD BEER!!!

Also what is good for the heat and for the hangover is A Red Eye. This is basically a Bloody Mary but instead of vodka you mix it with beer. Very tasty!

Furthermore, along with the beer a good ceviche is the best to beat the heat!!

My wife's Indian cooking is nice and spicy. Chili powder, peppers, occasional spicy pickles...

If you really want a kick, grab some Mad Dog's Revenge or Blair's 4 a.m. Drizzle it on some chicken wings or something, then enjoy. Just make sure your beer is extra cold.

Best way to beat the summer heat...air conditioning. Or move to Alaska...although I'll probably wind up doing both eventually ;)

You won't beat the heat there either, they have hot and muggy summers. I've felt some of the mildest summers anywhere in the S.F. Bay area.

Want to do something stupid?

Try "Dave's Insanity" hot sauce.

I make my own salsa. Its a green salsa, and fairly hot depending on how you make it. Here's the recipe:

Put all of this in a blender:

Boil and chop 2 tomatoes
add 8 -12 or more jalapenos, sliced, but leave in seeds, not a big deal.
2 cloves of garlic
cilantro to taste
salt and pepper
one half onion
lime juice

Blend all of this together and you have a really good, hot salso for chips, tacos or quesodillas that goes great with beer.

That recipe looks like its a good one. For the really brave of palate, try substituting the jalapenos with habaneros or some other incredibly hot chili.:D
