As promised: pictures of the new horse (caution-large pictures)
Finally I have some pictures of the foal my mare dropped on Mother's Day. I'll finally get to see her in person this weekend. Pretty color and a nice reverse image of the Great State on her left side.
Just hours old One day old I apologize for the gigantic pictures, the wife had the film developed and had a CD made at the same time. On top of that I haven't figured the picture software on the laptop yet. I just had to share these with the rest of the "horse folk" here.

wow.. thats a pretty horse. What determines the multiple colors on the horse? Is it a trait of a horse breed?

Not sure, but I expect it is genetic. Mom, a Quarter Horse, was bred to a Paint stallion. Paint's are those two-tone horses and Pintos are three-tone (I believe). Not all Paints will have paint offspring, that only happens where the gene is dominant, and in my mare's case, likely a recssive gene. I believe, but not sure, that most of her offspring have been Paints. Her last two were for sure, because we have both of them. We're hoping to get a picture of the sire from the original owner of the mare. She was in foal when we bought her. A pretty sweet deal, mom and her 2 month old filly, and then we learn that the breeding attempt, which was believed not to have taken, was successful. A three for the price of one deal.
Now watch a geneticist come along and rip apart my lay explanation .
