The BIG hope is that killing the gophers and decapitating supporting regimes and seizing assets will slow the mofos down (I gotta thank Doc for that contraction! I'm stealing it from now on).

Whatever happens, it wont be a straight-line solution. It'll have ups and downs, hopefully a sort of damped oscillation. It looks like terrorism is down world-wide but more Americans dying/day than since what, Vietnam? I imaging that the rate of loss of our soldiers in Iraq will soon go into a decline as we relinquish superficial control and lower our visibility. Also, attrition of the enemy and enemy materiale has been pretty high.

The worst-case would be for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Islamoterrorism in US soil simultaneously.

Here are two predictions before the Fall election.

There will be a significant lull in terrroism and armed conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan during the Summer months.

On or about 9/11 there will be a domestic incident of significant potential. Concommitantly there will be a dramatic upturn in violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine.

There will be numerous assassinations of prominant arab leaders within a few weeks of elections in the USA.

There will be two or three more attaks in the USA between 9/11/04 and the election.

Islamoterrorists will, shortly before the election, make the same offer to the USA that they offered Spain. People will be angry and fearful and blame Bush. Kerry will be under enormous pressure to make some conciliatory comments about the Islamoterrorists' offer.

NY Times analysis of the same question addressed above. Essentially they say that an unpreventable attack (suicide bomber, for ex) would probably help Bush but one that is perceived as "preventable" by the electorate would not help Bush or may help Kerry.

That Bill Murray character was the best! I still laugh when I think about his characterization of that role.
