Playstation or XBox?

Fella's,
I've been trying to hold this off for some time now, but my almost-6-year-old keeps nagging me relentlessly for a TV game system. And to be really honest, from what I've seen of what these things can do these days, they look like fun for grown-ups aswell...

What should I get him (..erm: us): Sony's Playstation or Microsoft's Xbox? Or something else perhaps like Nintendo's Gamecube? PC-based games are okay aswell, I think these TV-systems are nicer.

THANKS!

I have both the playstation II hasn't been used in months, but the Xbox is used almost daily.

While the Playstation has more games the Xbox has better games IMO and the Xbox Live console maybe subscription based but it keeps the trolls out unlike Playstation II. The lonline Playstation II also doesn't regulate game cheats so your almost always playing with someone who has some sort of hack in place.

When it comes to online Multi Player the Xbox wins hands down.

The Xbox also has a hard drive which is a great improvement over memory cards which is the way it should be.

Xbox also has Ferrari licensing which is the reason I bought it in the first place.

IMO if you going to use the console for Multiplayer which is the only useful purpose for a console IMO the Xbox would be a best choice.

I think since your son is only 6 years old he would enjoy a game cube more. a lot of mario/ kids game are available only to game cube.

both the ps2 and xbox are nice. i think u get more for the money with the xbox. but when it comes down to it, its all about what game titles u want to play, and u have to buy the console accordingly.

I'd have to agree with ned2683. For a 6 year old a gamecube would be the best console due to the games available for it. In a couple of years the Xbox2 will be out and he will be old enough to enjoy it then. Now if it was just for you I would definately recommend the Xbox.

I'm w/ the other 2 in that the GameCube is better for a 6yo kid, and it'll still have a couple of games for you.

I'll also put in that the XBox is the better machine, and the games reflect that.....I've played both and I'll say the XBox is definitely better.

I bought the XBox the first day it rolled out (by accident) and love it! Don't have a Playstation II, so I can't compare features/playability/software, etc.

My daughter was 8 when I bought it, and I too felt that there were not enough games for kids...so I bought a Gamecube a few months later.

She plays with the Gamecube whenever she wants to battle with Mario or Sonic. She goes for the XBox when she wants to go underground racing, rallying, test driving...or dancing!

I also bought an XBox right after it came out. At first I was let down by the games, but eventually the library grew. I think by and large its a more mature machine, going down to PS2 and then to the Gamecube. The Gamecube might be more appealling to a younger person as the games speak more to youth gernerally, and they're so cheap now why not?

As for PS2 v. XBox, there are fanboys for both but mostly for the PS2 for some reason, probably loyalty and so on. The PS2 has so many "Asian market" licenses, and I don't personally relate to the asian role playing games and so on.
