Fun thread--favorite quotes
Just for the fun of it, I thought it might be interesting to share some of our favorite quotations, be they from the world of literature, politics, whatever. We might offer commentary on their meaning to us, or not. Or we might comment on someone else's selections.
I'll start the ball rolling: From Kurt Vonnegut: "We are what we pretend to be, so be very careful what you pretend to be." To me, this seems particularly relevant on an Internet forum, where some people assume all sorts of poses. It reminds me of a cartoon I saw a few years back. Two dogs are sitting at adjoining computers. One dog turns to the other and says: "This is great! We can be anybody on this thing!" Bring on more. Joe B. |

Winston Churchill was told by a women member of parliament that "if she was his wife, she would poison his tea" to which Churchill replied "Madam, if I were your husband, I would drink it."

Howdy All,
Another one from Churchill. As he came out of a pub late one night he bumped into a woman. She said "Mr Churchill you are drunk". To which he replied. "My good lady yes I am and you are ugly, but in the morning I will be sober" |

Howdy All,
I don't know who said this first. "When you are up to your a$$ in alligators you have a tendency to forget that the original reason you were there was to drain the swamp":D |
Katherine Hepburn: "If you want to trade the love and admiration of many men for the criticism of one, go ahead, get married."

Howdy All,
I think W.C. Fields gets credit for his one. "Ah yes I love kids.... If their're cooked right." |
I always seem to get inspiration and renewed vitality by contact with this great novel land of yours which sticks up out of the Atlantic.
