Peyton was CRASHED

Hey all,

Bad news to report. Peyton, my wagon, was in a rough collision today, only minutes after washing her.

Me and my friend Jason were driving through santa monica when an Audi pulled out in front of traffic (me) and stopped. I couldn't stop in time and slammed into the back of him. He left the scene right away, but thankfully some guys in a BMW chased him down and told him they would report him to the police if he did not return to the scene of the accident.

ive gotten the guys insurance info yet he denies fault. he blames it on someone in front of him getting in his way.

they don't send police to accidents to file reports here, they just let insurance companies investigate.

my car is DEFINITELY totalled. I don't know what I am going to do yet. I am definitely crushed.

I have realized though how strong my attachment to my car was, when in reality, it is just a thing. we're alive.

Sorry about Peyton. Glad no one was hurt.

I was just out your neck of the wood for a whole week on business. Santa Monica is one of my favourite places. Have you eaten dinner at Gladstone's yet (right on PCH)? Make sure you have a big appetite if you go there. Portions are huge.

ugh, horrible. glad you are alright. can always get another car, though individual ones sure do seem special once in a while.

I saw a td in socal on autotrader; maybe you could transfer some of your dilligent care and restoration work to a fairly rust-free cali car?
I remember reading about your seat rebuilds and all that other work- surely you could salvage something? blah!

I'd still file a police report against the loser for leaving the scene of an accident. The reality is that they initially fled, and this *should* mean some thing to the insurance company.

Sorry to hear about your car. Hopefully you can repair her. She was a great looking car.
Let me know if there's anything I can do. Us TD owners must stick together.

Sorry to hear about Peyton.
One of my favourite threads is the one with the pictures of Peyton travelling across country.

I'll miss looking at Peyton

Maybe not,though...
Do you have any pics in the car's current state of disrepair?
Maybe others on the forum could advise on the feasability of repairs.
There's also a "beater" 300TD on ebay now, which if purchased for cheap may be used for parts.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6783&item=7906010704&sspagename=rvi%3A1%3A2

It is a long way to Georgia, though.

Make sure you go through all options with insurance, looking at threads here first before abandoning Peyton.
