smoke/ no smoke

With limited politicizing, answer the question: do you smoke? If so, do you enjoy or wish to quit? If not, have you tried and stopped, or never begun?
Just looking for a public opinion gauge after 34 years of non-TV advertising...

In my case it is no, never have, never will.

I smoked from 17 to 34 yrs of age. I, like most of my family of origin, quit after my grandad died of lung cancer. To see someone she loves smoke made my grandmother cry after that. You go to my family reunions these days, my cousins, my aunts my uncles, all quit. It is a stupid habit. I know a doctor that wants the death certificates to have a check off box to replace Lung Cancer with "Died of Stupidity"

I smoked Camels for years. I tried to quit over about three years and haven't smoked since. That was about 23 years ago. I still want a cigarette. When I reach my seventies, I'm gonna smoke'm again. WTF?

Never have, never will. Saw a father and aunt die horrible deaths from lung cancer. That did it. I have an older brother who has smoked since his Marine Corps days, and he has a nasty case of emphyzema now.

I have a friend who quit cold turkey several years back, but he insists that he instinctively reaches for cigarettes in his pocket on occasion.

Reaching for a cig, yeah, I did that for several years. Especially when sipping bourbon.

Its funny, I quit smokin' Cannabis over 30 years ago and never missed it like I missed cigs. No craving. Only time I ever had a craving under the influence of Cannabis was for food. Lots of food.

Neither the wife or I smoke, but for some stupid reason both my daughters picked up the habit in their teens. Luckily my son doesn't, and constantly harrasses his sisters about it.
I love the way the price keeps going up We've had several people at work quit, partly for health, partly for the cost.

I smoked three to five cigarettes a day for about a year and a half.

Ironically, I quit when I turned 18. I haven't had a craving since three months of the quit. However, I do have a crazy urge to smoke when I hear one particular CD I listened to like crazy when I was smoking.

Never took a puff in my life. The smell alone's enough to make me want to stay away.

The only drug I'm willing to consume is caffeine. I'm also an ardent non-drinker.

As for my kids, if/when I ever have any...if they have to do one drug, I'd actually pick marijuana. Doesn't seem to have nearly as bad of an effect as nicotine or alcohol does...as Bot said, not nearly as addictive (unless you start chain-smoking the stuff, I presume) and AFAIK the effects are largely benign.

That said, I wouldn't touch that stuff either. I've been high exactly once (painting in an unventilated area) and that one time was more than enough for me...

I was the only smoker in my immediate family, I quit after taking my grandfather to Chemotherapy, many of the patients were 40's and 50's with oxygen.

That one look is all it took. I threw the smokes I had in the trash and I'm good to go.

I still puff on a fine cigar while enjoying hops and barley.

I don't smoke, never tried it and never will. I'm not big on drinking either. I don't need to be drunk to have fun, now watching other drunk people doing stupid things, thats fun!

Smoked a pack of cigarettes one day that I stole from my parents when I was about 9. Couldn't put the unused ones back so I smoked the whole pack with a buddy. Got sick and never did it again.

My grandparents on my mother's side smoked very heavily, and also had drinking problems.

I can't even stand to be around an environment where there is any smoking. I have an allergic reaction(watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, sore throat), plus the smell is so foul it simulates symptoms equivalent to that of the stomach flu.

As far as drinking. Never once, in my entire life, have I consumed an alcoholic beverage. Normal occasional dosages of cough suppressants are the closest I've come, I guess.

Aren't I a GOOD little boy!
