Is the Jerry Springer show real?

I just had to ask. I saw a little bit of the show at lunch today.

How in the world could it be real? The guests look like second class acting school rejects.

Does anyone definitively know if that show is legit?

I had a friend who appeared on the show a couple years back. He said they gave him lines to remember (which was obvious when I saw it on tv as it seemed he was trying to remember a movie script he read twice) and that the whole thing was fake. The story he was involved in was that he slept with his gf's mother, which of course was not true. I think most people can generally tell the show is not real.

While I can't say I really know from experience, I seem to recall one of these shows involving some guy declaring his love for another guy, live on TV. The other guy went home, got a gun and shot the first one, dead. So, while they may have scripts and added features for the sake of getting bored people to watch them, it seems that if they were all scams, they would be off the air due to liability issues.

I was subjected to an hour or so of a similar show last week when I had to report for Jury Duty. Some clever guy got up and declared CNN, which was on the TV at the time, was really the "Clinton News Network" and that he hated it and wanted to change the channel. It took him about 10 tries with the remote to accomplish that and he selected some talk/freak show. To my amazement, the Jury Duty Pool actually got together and asked to have the volume turned up! Jim

So, JenTay, what were you doing watching such drivel? Remember, I have been labelled "Dad" on this Open Discussion Forum, and in that capacity offer the observation that I figure a young, talented woman such as yourself would just not have the time for that crap. What happened? Hope you were not in a waiting room having your wounds from conquering El Capitan attended? Dad

Was that not the "Jenny Jones" show? They are all crap, just like "cops", free exposure for the "not haves".

It is not really clear, or important to me which show it was. The point is, if these shows are 100% scripted and they set up conditions that prove dangerous for the participants, especially if they are not aware of the script and given an opportunity to decline the invitation to participate, I would think a justifiable lawsuit would be the outcome where a lot of money changed hands from the "haves" to the former "have nots" that would shut the shows down. So, unless there is some shred of verified truth to some aspect of the show, I find it hard to believe they could exist for as long as they have. Jim/Dad

Jim,

i had to come home for lunch and that was the show on tv.( i usually pack my lunch to save money.)

mind you, i'm not a daytime tv person so seeing two grown men exchange punches over some woman seemed intruiging. no one ever fought over me that way!

they even had a bell that would go off (obviously added later) right before they would throw punches. almost Pavlovian.

something different i guess.

the amazing thing about these shows is that the 'contestants'/'actors' seem to all leave their brains at home.

i'm actually fully recovered from my trip. thanks for checking Dad!

JenTay,

What is with "Lil Pete" in a coma? I just noticed your signature and thought you revived him a while ago. Jim

If guys are not fighting over you, it is most likely due to your more mature and less manipulative dealings with them, which is most likely exercised when you are in the assessment and selection mode. I am sure you could inspire any number of male creatures to fight if they thought it would get them closer to their goal. Especially if you go to some of those places Kirk noted and encourage more than one at a time to get closer. Or Deadhorse, Alaska. Dad

There's a great bar in the Ft. Worth Stockyards called "Filthy McNasty's". Wear that outfit from the Pretty Girls Thread when you go there, and they'll be busting pool cues over each other's head in no time.

My brother (uh.... who lives in Ft. Worth with his wife and son...) gives this great analogy about Jerry Springer and others:

Those shows are nothing more than a reincarnation of the traveling freak shows of yesteryear.

I do remember seeing a guy on "Blind Date" once, then later in a vaccum commercial. So they do use "wannabee" actors.
