A new Chicago Cubs fan......
Went to Chitown this weekend and was blown away. The sheer size of that city is amazing. Someone mentioned about 5-6 million. Wow.......
Went to a couple of bars and was amazed at the passion those people have for the Cubs. I mean every pitch seemed like life and death. The people were even cool to me when I told them I was from Florida. I'll be the first to to go out on a limb and say that those fans deserve a world series championship. THat would be one hell of a party. I only had a small taste(Saturday) as I spent the rest of the time in Indiana on friend/family matters. There are an amazing amount of fuel farms in NorthEast Indiana, which I learned is the crude we import from our Canadian neighbors. Lots and lots of it. I plan on making another trip back there soon and spending my time exclusively in Chicago and actually going to a Cubs game.

Since Napster and Kazaa are pretty much toast . . . I guess you might have to go out a find a copy to buy . . . but as a new Cubbies Fan, you must have Steve Goodman's "A Dying Cub's Fans Last Request"
Do they still play the blues in Chicago When baseball season rolls around When the snow melts away, Do the Cubbies still play In their ivy-covered burial ground When I was a boy they were my pride and joy But now they only bring fatigue To the home of the brave The land of the free And the doormat of the National League Let's Play Two |

You think Cub fans are rabid you should visit Boston.
If they should get into the world series together, it would be insane. |

I'm a lifelong Cub fan -- welcome to the club! You're going to learn more about losing than you ever thought possible!

I have no allegiance to any particular team. Last year, I was glad the Marlins won since I am from here. Used to, and still like the Reds a bit. I only watch come playoff time. No doubt will watch the Cubbies with a little more interest.

Where did you go in Indiana? I'm in Ft. Wayne, east of Chicago by 2 1/2 hours.
Thanks David

Cubs fans are so passionate about every pitch because that is all they have to look for. Most Cubs fans aren't in it because they like baseball, but because they like the carnival atmosphere of Wrigley Field and they like cheering for the underdog. I am a lifelong Chicagoan and love this city. I find Wrigley to be great place to spend the afternoon. But if I want to see a baseball game, you'll find me at Comiskey {US Celluar}Park cheering on a real baseball team.
PS, if you want to see a cubs game, plan ahead, the season is sold out, and scalpers will gouge you. You're best bet is to find a season ticket holder who is fed up with the season already. |

Yes, the CWS are such winners....... You can have the Big Skirt and the rest of your "real baseball team". That team and their ballpark bring a whole new meaning to the word "boring". I've met a handful of White Sox fans in my life (there aren't all that many to choose from) and I've honestly never seen the appeal. Sorta like being a Clippers fan, I guess.....

Well, the sad truth is that there is no real baseball played in the American League, and there hasn't been in many years. I was taught that baseball teams have nine players on a team rather than ten. I have personally boycotted the AL since they decided to approximate baseball rather than actually play it, and will continue to do so until they drop the DH or I die, whichever comes first.

Was surprised at how inexpensive the homes in Griffith were. 3/2 3 bath, huge detached 2 car garage for about 130-140K Too cold though. And the interior landscape biz won't fly there.

Regular gas was 1.65-1.75 in griffith and I saw signs for 2.10 in Chicago. Diesel was 1.57 in Griffith.
I'm sure the fact that all those fuel farms in the Griffith area have soemthing to do with lower transport costs.

As a lifelong Cubs fan, welcome to the club. You might also have noticed that Chicago boasts a great number of real women who are able to drink beer with the best of them. A number of years ago, I happened to be in a Chicago bar during a Bears game and found my swilling ability put to shame by a couple of young beauties.

I'm not sure if they still do this, but when I was in Chicago a few years back, I noticed that pretty much all the bars put out potato chips as snacks, as opposed to pretzels and popcorn. The best I remember were at Harry Caray's.

Plantman, Want, et.al,
I flew, with my son and a friend of mine, from Philly to Chicago on Friday to watch the Cubs game!! We then drove to Indy for the F1 race. Wrigley Field is such a cool ballpark, it reminds me of a larger version of our minor league park where I live...no bad seats, even the upper deck is close to the field, tree lined streets...VERY cool. Since the last baseball strike, I've only been to 2 games, the one Friday and one at Fenway a couple years ago while on vacation. Those places have such history that you have to go to a game if you are in the city. The traffic was a real *****, however. Trying to get back into the airport on Monday afternoon was an experience I hope never to have again!! Apparently there is no such thing as a rush HOUR. The traffic is backed up ALL the time. The F1 race was just AWESOME. If you've never been, you should try to go to one. Take or purchase ear plugs, because you will be deaf within minutes if you don't. These cars are so loud and so fast! You will get a new respect for the guys who drive them. BOB
