I expect that the NY Yankees will be drafting Shaquille O'Neal to prevent the Boston Red Sox from trading Garciapara to the Lakers . . . However, knowing the Yankee organization's penchant for troublemakers . . . they could end up with Kobe. :D

Jackson leaves Lakers; Shaq immmediately requests trade

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- The Zen Master is done coaching the Los Angeles Lakers and his two biggest stars could be leaving the team, too.

Phil Jackson, one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, won't return as coach of the Lakers.

A team source told the AP on condition of anonymity that O'Neal had requested a trade. And as expected Bryant became an unrestricted free agent, opting out of his contract.

Howdy MTI,
So much for inside family knowledge. Jeanie Buss said the other day that the chances of her husband staying as coach was something like 80%:D

Yes, had to dig deep to pull this thread back from the dead . . . but it's relevant.

Re: your original post, Kobe is almost old enough now for the Yankees to sign him to a long-term contract. Bonus if he signs as an outfielder. ;)

Third base only if he's on roids.

If he gains 150 lbs instead, he could pitch.

Hey, I've heard that Skid Row Joe is signing with the Cowboys. Things might get interesting when he plays the Giants and has to face Brian Carlton.

My thoughts on sports:

Football: Don't care, unless we're talking college. In that case I favor Georgia Tech because I went there, whoever's beating Georgia, also because I went to Tech, and slightly favor Auburn over Bama from when I used to live in Birmingham.

Baseball: Don't care.

Basketball: Don't care.

NASCAR: Don't care, though I will admit Danica Patrick is nice to look at, even after driving 500 miles in a car with no AC.

F1: Now we're talking. With both Alonso and Raikkonen, Ferrari may be able to beat Red Bull for the constructor's championship, though I doubt anyone will be catching Vettel any time soon. I hope the new turbo V6's sound better than the simulations I heard, and I really hope the new technical regulations don't hurt the sport. And I hope Pirelli (or whoever ends up making the tires) finally makes some that don't catastrophically fail so often.
