Online bill paying service - any one use which one regularly?
I signed up with WAMU, and they are a few years behind on technology.... Guess I got used to paying most of my bills online (c/c co's, utilities that have that capability on their web pages)..
Anyway... I wanted to send payment (had to not wanted, actually, lol) to three parties, two of which have accounts with my same bank, so figured it would be instant (dr $ from my account, Well, it didnt work out that way, they said it takes up to five working days.. I might as well WALK it over!! . What am I looking for ? EFT, is what I want, electronic funds transfer. I want it to be instant, for a low or no fee... they dr my account and credit the receipient's account, whether its at my bank or not. Is there such a thing out there? My bank said, that they either MAIL checks or send electronically... MAIL??? WTF, I might as well do that, LOL... and they are supposed to be one of the leading banks,... what a POS

I haven't had any good experiences using the bank to do this. In fact, I asked them to transfer money between two of my accounts, but they could not do it. One of the accounts is personal, and the other is for my business, so they mailed a check to themselves... to the wrong address! The money was missing for 10 days.
Bottom line there is no free or cheap way to get instant transfers from the bank. They are called "wire transfers" and cost a percentage of the amount you're sending - the last one I did cost $12. If possible, use the recipient's facility to "pull" the money from your account rather than your bank or credit card company's ability to "push" it to them. When you pull, you generally get credit for the payment immediately, while it takes a day (or 5) to come out of your account. Conversely, when you push, your account gets debited immediately and the recipient takes a day or 5 to credit you.

I use my credit union. They have E transfer with a majority of the companies I work with but for some they have to send it via USPS. It is up to the company to set up the agreements. I do not think you will find what you are looking for if all you want is E transfer.
As far as my credit union is concerned, I have been using it for 6 or 7 years now and have only had one problem. State Farm said they did not receive payment. Turns out they did but did not realize it. I do not have to buy stamps, run to the mail box. It’s the best thing since sliced bread.

I do online bill-pay thru my bank...
...I rarely write a check anymore! As you mentioned, only wire transfers occur same-day...otherwise, it's 2 days for e-bills and 5 days for conventional bills. It may not seem any faster than snail mail, but you don't have to write a check or lick stamps and find a postal box or depot. The best part is you can set up your bill payment schedule ahead of time or make all or a subset of bil payments recurring. So if I'm going on vacation, I set up my bill pay schedule before i go, and I know that my bills go out the door on time while I vacation. Now if I could only do my church tithes on-line...

Bank of America
Folks,
As others said, 2 days to deliver a bill. You can set up payees pretty easily. It is free with my checking account. I can transfer funds in 1 day between home equity and checking. The website is easy to use. Chuck |
