Funny reading old magazine articles

I'm getting rid of magazines. I come across the Feb. 21st 2000 issue of Fortune Magazine where the cover story is about the most admired companies in America Can you see where I'm going with this?

Let's see... Enron came in first in innovativeness. First in quality of management. Second in employee talent!

To think I used to read this rag. I read other rags too. Gawd I've become such a skeptic.

I can think of some of my old car magazines I have in storage;

hopping up Ford's "new" 302 in the 1984(?) Mustang Pace Car

Chevrolet's new and improved Citation; the answer to the gas problems...

Chevrolet's Vega... great road tests..... guess they didn't foresee the rust, lol... took chevy how many decades to get compacts right?

Porsche original 924 tests (mid - early 80's) in Road and Track called it a great Porsche... Guess they over saw the junk Audi derived engine / tranny and the great depreciation.

or how about..

hmm, forgot... I am going to pull a few more samples when I go the warehouse this week... I'll pull a couple, lol...

You think that's old? Last month I was at a hospital waiting room and I came across some "vintage" magazines, apparently donated by some hospital auxillary . . . National Geographics from the '80's . . . with the car ads like the brand new car from GM, the Saturns and Bill Cosby's print ads for that new fangled Texas Instruments personal computer, TI/99 with educational software!

Shoot, that is down right new! The waiting room at where I am undergoing a little physical therapy has National Geographics from the late 50's, those are the ones with the table of contents on the cover instead of an award winning picture.

Actually I think the 924 had a junk Volkswagen derived engine. My 944 has the junk Audi derived engine. If I remember right, Porsche just built the body and did the coach work on the 924, and shipped it over on skids to VW, who installed the engine and a $hitty VW transaxle. On the 944, Porsche built the whole car, and dropped an Audi engine in. The manual 5 spd transaxle in the 944 is strong enough to be mated to Chevy 350's - they sell adapter kits for it and it is a popular hop up for a 944, and kit cars use it as well.

I've got a stack of late 70's and early 80's Car and Driver magazines sitting here and this thread got me to thumbing through a couple of them. Kinda funny leafing through here and seeing the "10 Best" recipients of Jan 1984. No W123 or W126 car to be found BUT in the "also rans" is listed a Mercedes 190E. Probably the ones that probably should have never been on there is an Audi 5000S/Turbo. How many of those babies do you see around today? Another one is a Pontiac 6000STE. How many of those bombs do you see around today?

Here is a pic of a 300D in a BF Goodrich ad from Oct '83 Car and Driver.

Well my barber has vintage 60's playboys I haven't seen him in a long time. I can't wait till I get 10 inches of ponytail so I can donate it.

Dare I ask, Kuan?

To whom do you donate your ten inches?

Envy just doesn't quite cover it.

Decent!
Too bad they don't accept shorter lengths.
