Advice: 1993 300e 2.8

Hey everyone,

my search has continued for a daily driver. i found the following and need some advice.

1993 300E 2.8 black/black leather
129,000 miles
2nd owner, bought in 1994
new tires (bridgestone), brake pads, rotors, belts
oil changed rougly every 6K miles (by owner - sometimes synthetic, sometimes normal) and tune ups every 6-8 months (MB dealer)
no records
$4,000, but was originally asking $5,500

drives like a dream!

the paint is nice all over - few to no dings, but it is oxidized on the hood, roof, and trunk - looks polish-able/wax-able.

leather is in very good shape

rear window doesn't work

he was asking $5,500, kelly blue book is $7,600. i was able to talk him down to $4,000 because he doesn't want the inconvience of taking the car to get a PPI. he said he will let a mobile mechanic come check it out at his house.

yea, there are drawbacks about the car but the price is great. i plan on getting a PPI by a mobile mechanic and taking the car as long as it checks out.

what do you think? what would you do?

eric

Always have a compression check done, wet and "dry" and then, if the results are questionable, either don't buy the car, or have a leakdown test done to be sure of what you are buying.

Also, check carefully for oil leaks. I am not sure of this model year, but head gasket leaks that show by oil leakage are known for the in-line 6 in the W124 body.

Overall these are great cars. Jim

I think the 300 2.8's are great cars.

They have the same 2.8 liter M104 engine used in 1994-1997 C280's.

However, I would never buy a car, even at $4,000, without a PPI.

Check for engine wiring harness deterioration and oil leaks at the head gasket.
