Supermarket parking lots

For goodness sake. Bring a cart in with you! Today I stopped by Costco with the boy. He fell asleep in the back so I just sat there and played chess on my handheld till he woke up... about 45 mins I think.

Anyway during these 45 minutes, I saw three people come out of the store with carts and leave them there. I also saw three cars park grab those empty spots. In each case the people who came out left the carts there and the newly arrived people never bothered to grab any of those carts. One woman even made her son jump out of the car and move those carts and went in without taking a cart from the lot.

I think this is my new pet peeve. Peope leaving their stupid carts allover the lot and people who decide it's too difficult to bring one in. I'm gonna make it my mission to try and get people to change this habit. Yeah... all the time on my hands... watch out world!

On the other hand...

...doesn't it seem like no matter where you park, the nearest cart corral is about a 1/4 mile away?

Still doesn't leave an excuse though. We only had our Chrysler less than a year when some moron let a cart take off and bash into the drivers door of it. Nice dent when we came out of the store, but the guilty party no where to be seen.
I've even taken carts right back inside the store when I'm done if I'm not too far out in the parking lot, otherwise I always find the nearest cart parking.

Mine is shoping carts in the neighborhood. We have two grocery stores and a target within about a mile. People take the carts and leave them on the sidewalk by the bus stop and in the alleys.

I called target once to complain but immediatly afterword, I felt like one of those cranky old men.

my understanding is the corporate bean counters count carts needing to be returned by the bag boys and when the number of carts go down so do the bag boys' hours. so i seldom walk cars back.

Okay, I'll fess up.

I joined Costco earlier this week. After unloading my cart, I left it with about five others near the front of the store. At least I put the front wheels up on the curb so it wouldn't roll away.

Guilty!! I've never done it before and it'll never happen again!

I always bring 'em in. A little more movement is always good for me. I think the same thing (while I'm walking) when I park my car at the furthest spot away from the store.

speaking of parking lots

95 e300d. 133k. Sorry for diverging a bit from the orig. post. My car's paint is in pretty good shape so I always park as far away from the door as possible. To me, its a lot easier to walk a little bit more than to come out and see a door ding or a side swipe. At the grocery store, it means an additional 120 feet. Big whip. At Wal-Mart, it means an additional 120 yards. Big whip. My wife loves to park close and acts like we're crossing the Sierra Nevada mountains in winter when I insist on parking at the back. At the strip mall, she'll even relocate the car within the parking lot to get closer to a different store. What's up with that? Last night, while sitting on the bus, I saw a guy standing in the bank parking lot on his cell phone looking down at a nice dent in his new SUV. Little pile of tail light lens pieces on the ground. He was parked in one of the spaces closest to the door. Just not worth it to me. Sorry for moving off topic.

It doesnt matter how far you park, on a windy day those carts will find your car like cruise missile.
I actually saw a guy bump a cart out of the way rather than get his chubby butt out of the SUV and move it He almost hit another car with the cart.
Our local Walmart employs a bunch of kids for the summer and they go out every half hour to bring the carts back in. Problem is when school starts its over

lol...sounds like a good idea to me!

I always return my cart as well. I'm not a lazy person at all and I suppose my parents burned it into me to return things after I'm done with them. It's so automatic I don't even think about it.

It does burn me to see lazy wankers who just leave them there.

On a related note, I saw a gorgeous new SL500 parked outside of my local Home Depot. Unfortunately, he was parked in the front, taking up two handicapped parking spots (parked diagonally intentionally). Another pet peeve of mine. If your bloody vehicle is so precious, don't leave it in parking lots....grrr.

I don't find any of my cars worse for wear parking among the masses than when parking on the north forty.

Besides, someone always parks right up to you anyway just to piss you off...

...and I have a revolving account with the door ding man, so it's just a way of life!

I agree about the cruise missle thing! I watched helplessly one day as a strong wind launched a cart directly into the door of a brand new Monte...

I've gotten more damage from idiots flinging doors open than runaway carts!

Anyway, I'd rather have a cart targeting my car at .05 mph than 5mph!

The Costco's that I've visited seem to do a pretty good job of keeping their lots clean. It's Wal Mart that pisses me off to no end. The one in Decatur, TX will have fully 90% of their ENTIRE inventory of shopping carts piled up everywhere in the lot. There IS no safe place to park in this lot, and the cart corrals are useless when they are overflowing. I also park way out of the way in these lots, just to stay out of the way of the beached whales idling away in the isles of the lot waiting for that front spot to open up.

If it wasn't for the fact that they've killed pretty much every single business out here, I'd never set foot in the place.
