new topic - if you could have chosen
what period of time you could have lived your life through which time period would it be.
Mine would have been to live in North America during the period of the Native American Indian prior to the arrival of the white man. I have always liked the idea of being pretty much self sufficient amoungst tribes. On the other hand wonder if they would have still been around if there had been a Homeland Security Force?

Can I bring back some technology?
I would have to say the 50's and 60's, early 70's before the gas crisis, in an area that is politically conservative but racially tolerant. (Yes, I know: Fat Chance.) Back when cars were cars and they were so damned cool. Back when you could depend on the government to leave you the hell alone. Back when a couple of 8yr olds could walk to school with a rifle slung on their sholder and drop it off in the office for safekeeping before their afternoon squirrel hunt without today's absurd rules and the reactions of the sheeple. Back when being a proud American was something you could hold your head up high about, not duck around corners checking to make sure there isnt anyone that will be offended by your pride in your country, like today. Maybe its just my local environment. *shrug*

I love living NOW and wouldn't trade Permanently for any other period.
However, I would love to have seen the wild west, go back and see what it was like without modern conveniences. I guess I could just go to Ahghanistan. Lol Maybe the 50's, the whole Ozzie and Harriet thing.... Another era that would be interesting would be the US before desegregation, not to participate of course, but it would be an incredible experience. Mid-forties, WWII era, industrial revolution.... Going into the future would be awesome as well. Sometimes, I wish I could remember yesterday.....

i find myself sitting in 1st class on delta wishing i was crossing the country in a well appointed pullman being soothed by the clack of the wheels on the rails and a good scotch served by someone who actually gave a ***** about if i had everything i wanted and whether i was enjoying my trip. my shoes shined and my hat brushed when i awoke the next morning.
airline 1st class is nothing but a poorly designed cattle car. or course like jim said, every boy wanted to be an injun (or cowboy). then theres also the civil war, dating flappers in a NYC art-deco penthouse, 50's california, summer-of-love and others. |

Just far enough back to when spilling hot coffee on yourself was stupid, not profitable, and you didn't get out of school until you knew the three Rs.

I think ol' Mo' was looking at one aspect, not the whole enchilada. As long as it's his dream-time, let it be without the ugliness.
Same with wishing to live in any historical period. Death was easy to find for young and old. It came in the form of infections and disease, mostly. But violence was always a possibility. My particular favorite would be in the generation after the death of Caesar Augustus, in Palestine. Might as well find out what really happened. Bot |

The middle aged did not do well in the middle ages. Think I'll pass.

Ever read anything by Eric Newby? I recently read his, "Last Grain Race". Wow, what a writer. My next book of his that I intend to read is his travelogue of Afghanistan edtitled something like, "A Brief Journey into the Hindu Kush". |
