Wet cell phone,,,,,,,

Should I kill my airheaded 15 year old?

While ridding my SDl of trash, my son took my new cell phone and digital camera and promptly threw them in the wet garbage cans.....the camera is waterproof, the phone is not. Maybe I'll kill him......... Another $200.00 damn......

buck a month and you can insure it... depending on your carrier. I've munched a few and the free replacement deadens the wallet sting quite nicely.

in 2000 I was a camp director on an ocean island and had 10 nextels for my staff. guess how many the sailing director put in the ocean? 3. 10 weeks, 3 phones. I only managed to ruin 2! ocean and cellphone are bad bedfellows.

on the bright side, you get a new phone? *trying*

here you go

My cell phone got wet when I had to jump in the Occoquan River in Virginia to save my kid.

I mailed my phone to Universal Cellular in Orlando, FL. For $45 they fixed it and sent it back to me. I didn't have to reprogram anything. It took less than a week. You can find them on the web.

I spilled a pint of ale on a good friend of mine's phone at the local pub do to slight inebriation. We were able to repair the phone by taking it apart and drting all of the components with a hair dryer and compressed air (the canned stuff you use to clean computer components). I wouldn't write it off immediately. Take it apart and survey the damage, it may still be salvagable.

insides

There is something in many cell phones that indicates if it has been submerged. It's some kind of reactive film or wire. I guess its like a fuse. Once its gone, it needs to be replaced. It could be some sort of memory or electric shock protection. From what I understand its also used by companies to determine cause of cell phone death. Might also be used to determine if a phone had been tampered with.

Sometimes moisture may not get to this film/fuse.

There is a very limited window from when a cell phone gets wet/submerged to when it cannot be repaired. This is due to rapid corrosion of some critical parts.

You might try this.

I had a similar experience. I'm painting at home and my phone is on the counter. My eldest daughter calls me on the cell phone instead of the land line and the phone vibrates off the counter into the paint bucket before I can get to it. It's a combo phone and PDA and I'd had it about 2 weeks. I grab it out of the bucket and rinse it off in tap water. I then pull the battery and apply hair dryer and some of the canned air mentioned above and then set it so that if water's inside it will drain away from keys and display. Two hours later I've got a screen but nothing more. By morning I have all functions EXCEPT the top row of keys which means I really have zilch, zero, nil, nada. I can receive but not dial out except on speed dial 4-0 on the touch pad.

I go into my carrier's local retail outlet and tell them a condensed version (as in the top row of keys don't work) of the story and ask about insurance. Turns out I'd termed it a couple phones ago. I'm thinking I just flushed $600 down the drain. However, the ever helpful rep tells me that since I've had the phone less than 60 days it's covered for basically any eventuality. They shipped me a new phone within 2 business days and I'm back in business. Oh, I'm now carrying the insurance on this phone.

Ciao for now,

I once stupidly walked into a lake w/ my cell in my pocket. I let it dry out for a couple of days (i.e. used a hair dryer, left it alone, and left it in my pocket during the day) and it came back to life. Motorola v120.

Wash only!!!!!!

I think you should have him wax it 5 times AND vaccuum the interior. It'll be good exercise for him....at least on his arms.
