Please don't tell the people in prison that. We don't want them thinking they can get off the bus during transport.

1) the cost includes infrastructure, payroll, right on down to supplies, essentially the op costs of running ICE.

2) Most of the repatriated detainees aren't from Mexico anymore. Dropping folks off in TJ would be a violation of national sovereignty.

Oh they must have jumped over Mexico when getting here from Guatemala. Trump would get Mexico to pay to deliver them where they belong as long as we get them to Tijuana.

Not sure what the immigration laws were at the time but follow the rule of the land.

True.

Another excellent point. Send them back to where they came from. 1st class ticket if you want. Wait! What about the cost? There is an answer to that. Lock them up and have them produce goods and services we can use. Pay off their debt for the deportation, get a 1st class ticket back home. Make the crime go thru inhospitable circumstances and see if that reduces the issue. Either way, we have a lot of trash on the roads and menial labor that needs to be done. Go pick strawberries. Eat into the market for illegals.

It depends. People want to lump it all together as "immigration" so you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak. Why don't we throw making money with criminal activity? I mean, traded in the investment markets to earn more to make a better life, Madoff did the same.

Just noticed the end of the article about the guy in Laredo Tejas who hammered his wife to death. I guess Laredo must be a sanctuary city too. Who'd a thought THAT??
Tejas stopped existing in 1845 when the state was annexed to the United States.

This is an interesting and somewhat unbiased look at the situation from the Washington Post. It is just a lot of facts and not a lot of opinion.

I do remember when Dallas was not such a city and the best deals at the City of Dallas auto auctions was on any car with three traffic tickets in it: No DL, no proof if insurance, and a speeding ticket. If there was a Hispanic name on the tickets or, better yet, Dealer tags AND a Hispanic name on the tickets, then you knew you had a running car and the 'owner' was never coming back.

But the cost of dealing with these people was high and the city of Dallas, as well as others, found dealing with ICE to be a money losing deal. Smaller towns made money off of these folks but their overhead was lower so they would lock them up and send ICE the bill. But ICE has a limit of how much they will pay and a lot of cities got tired of doing ICE's work, and picking up their expenses, so they changed the way they dealt with the subject.

Plus some, if not all, of these folks claimed that if they were sent back they would become political prisoners. This enables them to a hearing on the subject and the court is currently about 450,000 cases behind. So the person can live in such a city without fear of being deported until their case is heard and that might take years.

All in all this is a complicated situation and not one that is going to be solved by getting tough on crime or deporting everyone and sending Mexico the bills. Getting tough has been tried. It didn't work. Trying to make Mexico pick up the tab is a waste of time since from their standpoint this is not their problem.

I don't have any answers, but the following article does give you a lot to think about.

Getting tough has NOT been tried. We have tried window dressing. Yes, it is NOT the Mexican's problem that we are too weak and stupid to really do what needs to be done which is hit the employers of the illegals. Sending them the bill is merely posturing. Reps can claim to their audience "See? We are getting tough. Vote us next election", Dems can oppose it and tell their audience "See? We are fighting for you so vote us next time.". Reps can claim that Dems are getting in their way of law and order. Dems can claim they want to be compassionate or whatever. Both sides think their side is doing something.

I think I saw this on WWF. One wrestler or team threatens to tear the head off the opposition and the other says similar. Fans of both sides go home happy.

So yes, it is to the advantage of both sides to posture BUT not do anything. I build a wall to make myself look good. You oppose and make yourself look good. Everybody wins. Well, if the voter benefits, so be it. But hey. You think your guy is doing his best and vote him in, I think my guy is doing his best and vote him in. If it wasn't for the other side, life would be good so we have to stand behind our candidate even more.

Tell me if this scenario seems familiar. It's similar to rodents. Keep leaving the food out there and more will come. Take away the food and less will come. Yes, I DO think the illegals are vermin but the legals from wherever are NOT.

The illegal immigration subject always flushes out and exposes those that have no respect for the rule of law.

I have always said that people say many things, believe in a few and do even fewer. However, the true test is only when it is inconvenient. Anyone can follow a law when it is convenient. I won't cheat on my wife if I am on a deserted island. The true test is when I am on the island populated by horny nubile women.
