W124 90 300TE front fender replacement

Hello all!
My 17 year old teenage son just rearended another 17 yearold teenage boy. There's a 1st I'm sure! My 90 300TE sustained most of the damage taking out the right headlight and turn signal and crumpling the RF fender. Have any of you replaced the front fenders on the W124? Big job? Since I have to replace the entire RF headlight/turnsignal assy I'm thinking about going to the Euro style headlights. Thoughts?

It's not a major job -- bolt on.

Far better to just purchase new sheet metal at the dealer (I think a new primered fender is around $250ish) and have it shot and blended by a body shop.

Don't bother with a used one -- would require more labor for refinishing and prepping than just getting a new one.

Cheers,
Gerry

I did the LF fender on my '95 E300D recently. Fairly straightforward. The bolts you have to get to thru the door opening can be a bit tricky to get to, as are one or two which bolt to the front bumper molding, but it's a half-day Saturday type job.

I don't know if your car has the plastic molding "cladding" panels on the lower part of the fender, but if so, plan on buying some new plastic clips for those, as you will probably break them when you pry the cladding off. The clips are cheap, so just get a few. FYI, I bought an aftermarket fender from Adsit for $99. Already primered. It fit just fine, but I could see that it wasn't quite as precisely made, and the gauge was very slightly thinner than the OEM. In my case, my car is a commuter special, i.e. don't-worry-about-it-in-the-airport-parking-lot mobile, so I'm not hung up on originality, etc.

Had it undercoated and painted at the body shop for $150. Looks absolutely fine.

Rgds,
Chris W.
