Did your family split up over the election?

I don't really know where to go for answers, other than the forum here. It looks like I have 2 sisters and a niece who are ready to cut ties from the family over this election. I am a Bush supporter, but if Kerry would have won, I certainly would have dealt with it and not blamed my siblings. Anyone else have serious problems within the family ? Is someone who you don't know and will never know or talk to, really worth losing your family over ?

My mom is a long time Democrat, but I still love her just the same. Everyone has their flaws.

Bush won, but it was not an honorable win. I think millions of people have lost respect for him a a result. That same loss of respect gets channeled into family relationships. There are also powerful emotions, especially fear, on both sides. Kerry supporters in general view Bush as a guy taking us to a much more horrible 9-11 event because he has essentially destablized the entire planet. You get an exact opposite view from his supporters. There is no middle. This election has created catastrophic divisions in this country, and I fear the emergence of religious fanatics as a key pollitical power group is going to add a further point of division as these people demand their political desires be granted as well. I truly think this is not going to be a happy land for the next four years.

Oh com on Kirk....Kerry did not have a kind word to say the entire campain, and he never once divolged his secret "plan" once.

Bush won fair and square...............come to terms with that fact. The only thing honorable Kerry did was admit defeat and congradulate Bush. Unlike Gore who acted like a spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum because he lost.

Your blood pressure will be lower and you won't be as unhappy.

You might just have to agree to disagree... or more likely, agree to no longer discuss politics

I feel for you guy, its a real stupid thing to split a family up over. Its not like your the president are you? I dunno what you can do about it though, the election is over you cant go change your vote? but i dont know if I would worry too much. Unless you got some real strange family members they'll probably get over it. Our entire family is not talking to eachother, got nothing to do with the election, good thing too.

Kirk, if Kerry would have won, it would not be religious fanatics, but anti-religious fanatics. The left is just as far out as the right. You even said that! And if you're really worried about division, think of how much more divided we'd be in this particular election if the popular vote had lost. More unhappy people then there are now. And you might like Bush a little more this time because he doesnt have to run his presidency based on a campaign. Like Fallujah, if we'd done like we did now last time, he'd have caught hell for endangering too many lives, killing too many people. Now it doesnt matter!

I'm afraid and gonna have to second boneheads comments. I still respect you though

We don't disagree on everything. But democrats seriously need to learn that most of the population just isn't in their corner of thinking. Nobody cheated, nobody lied, they lost fair and square. Move on life has a lot to offer. ANd stewing over it is a obsessive habit, not healthy.

I can certainly understand how someone might see the election as a fine opportunity to rid oneself of fundamentalist relatives under the guise of political principle. It would avoid the awkwardness of having to state straight out that you don't like them.

I knew the deep thinkers would chime in. That is about the most rational explanation I have heard yet. Weather we do get together again, the finger pointing and whispering behind the back will always be there I suppose, and you are probably right ,,,,, it's not all politics related.

The difference between Bush and Kerry is like the difference between Dumb and Dumber. Anyone who took this election seriously needs a big hammer to the head reality check. The president does not run this country, BIG MONEY does. All of the misdirected anger and hatred, pure foolishness.

This is what the media are all about, misinformation and propaganda. If they can misdirect the anger and hatred they have done their job well. If they can tear your family apart, even better, divide and conquer. Why do we have two political parties? Gotta have someone to blame, it is all a dog and pony show.

It is all about the love of money, stupid. As long as the lobbyists can buy the politician's votes, the system is corrupt and it doesn't matter who gets elected.

/end rant
