I have to ask. What was it about his take on international relations that you didn't like?

His domestic record as governor was okay with me. It wasn't full of glitz and sparkle but it demonstrated fiscal prudence, sensitivity to the citizens, and steady, dependable leadership.

In contrast, he defines international relations in the negative sense -- not the current model. But that doesn't provide an alternative model, just a negation. By not providing an alternative model he leaves open the greater possibility of a worse model -- and there are an infinite possibility of worse models and only a finite number of better models.

Anybody can do that on any subject. To reject a particular course takes no talent, intelligence, creativity, audacity, courage, wisdom or leadership.

I haven't read the whole thread and I don't have time now, so if this has already been said, kiss my grits: Third party success depends entirely on the presence of run-off elections........until this is the case, it will never happen.

Hit the nail on the head... I've been searching for these words for a long, long time. Well said!

Of course, they also apply to many of the armchair politicians right here

I don't think a third party system could ever happen. Neither the Democrats or Republicans will go for it. They will always believe that a third party will always take votes away from them.
Ross Perot is a perfect example, besides the poor choice for vice president. The Democrats new they didn't have a chance with him on the ballot.

Pat Buchanan is another example. The Republicans practically threw the election to Bill Clinton to keep him out of office. They figured Bill would be in and out but it would be all over if Pat got in. This is from a reliable source from someone who worked in Pats campaign. Pat was not a Nazi like the media portrayed him to be.

psst, I like Pat personally. He would make a great Pres. From what I've seen of him, he is an isolationist who would have conservative domestic policies. I then wouldn't have to worry about national healthcare or other ridiculous ideas. He is strongly supportive of closing the border with Mexico, one other thing I really like. He is also a moral person, which many of you probably would not like, but our greatest Presidents have been moral men.

Thanks
David

I like morality, as long as it doesn't infringe on my rights.

What's a moral person, and why would I not like it? If this person were in office, would I need to wear a burkha, goosestep to Wagner, recite biblical passages on demand, or what?

I have to guess that this is a joke.

Closing the boarder with Mexico. Now THAT'S a great idea. Yeah, because I want to spend $3. for an orange and $6. for a cup of tea at the diner.

Close the boarders. That's a good idea.

Aside from everybody being afraid to get away from the status quo third parties need to get established in lower levels of government before trying to get in the Whitehouse.

Gotta, it would not be a permanent thing, and from what I would understand, it would be to prevent illegal crossings, not a complete closing. I don't think the government tightening down on border security is a bad thing.

Thanks
David

His fiscal sense is good. Also, he's a realist on gun control, which many demos aren't.

I object to his personality tics mainly cause they render him almost un-electable. Even w/o the scream, he would've crashed and burned, I think. Too cocky.
