First of all this is a Mercedes forum not a lincoln town car forum, completley different

also if it is a 1994, its probably time for the bone yard, unless it has like 40K or less and is in excelent condition

could be a throttle position sensor too.

(figure I'd take a shot at it too)

Try crankshaft position sensor; any engine which cuts out when hot and can be restarted once it has cooled for a time ;this is the first thing to try.
Cheers, geo.

Actually, if cared for, these cars are pretty bulletproof. There is a 1995 Lincoln Town Car on e-bay right now, with over 453,000 miles.

They are actually nice and long lasting cars, and are used by livery services and they roll into the hundreds of thousands of miles.

Fix it and keep it.

The same can be said for many Mercedes models. Most 1994 Mercedes still on the road are huge money pits that keep mechanics and parts houses awash in money, just to have the prestige of the three-pointed star on the hood.

Yes it's a Mercedes forum, and I have never owned a Lincon, that doesn't mean we can't help a fellow human being out. I ride a Harley, but I can appreciate how someone could lust after a Russian made Ural pos.

In regards to the the stalling problem. The car is losing spark or fuel. If I had to guess, it would be spark. New ignition modules can be defective, especially aftermarket brands. If the module is the one that bolts in with a very odd sized 5.5 mm socket, you have to use special goop on the backside of the module to act as a heat sink to avoid overheating the module, which will cause it to fail when it gets hot. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I have a 95 towncar

Check to see if fuel pump is pumping while key is on when it is acting up. I worked on a lady's 95 towncar w/ 90k and it would stall. Turned out a ground on the front right fender for the fuel pump was loose. Tightened it up and was fixed. typical ford put that extra ground for the fuel pump and sometimes thats the problem. HOPe this helps.

I had an '86 Town Car

I second the referral to crownvic.net. It's basically like this site, only for full-size Ford sedans.

I know 5.0's, but I'll admit I know little about the 4.6. I'll take a shot at it anyway:

The earlier 5.0 engine sometimes has a problem similar to the one described caused by failure of the thick film ignition (TFI) module inside the distributor. The 4.6 is a completely different engine, but I believe the early ones like your '94 still came with a distributor, and it wouldn't surprise me if they use the same or a similar module.

The thick film module caused Ford owners many problems. The aftermarket parts suppliers started demanding the use of a dielectric heat sink paste be applied to the module before the replacement was installed, due to the large number of modules that were being returned as defective.
