Turbo, or Twin Turbo, 560SEC..

I'd like to Turbo charge, or even Twin Turbo, a 560 SEC.
Anyone have any info, on kits, pics, just general info about the job..?

I think I've seen it done , or read something about it either here, or at the other place, but do not recall exactly who, what, when or where..

Is this what your looking for? 500SEL Twin Turbo
You may want to consider posting in Performance Paddock if your serious about this project. Also, do a search. Tons of info available here on turbocharging Mercs.

Ah! Thank you very much. That's just what I was looking for. I am very serious, so long as it's available/possible.

Well, there's nothing really "available", I mean there's no kit. However it is definitely possible. I'd imagine You could get a nice running twin turbo setup constructed on an M117 for around $5K. That is, if you do most of the work yourself.

The forum at www.mbcoupes.com is performance oriented towards the SEC.

One or two people have super modified their cars. I believe cyberdrakon, (Eddie) had a NOS system in his 560 SEC (I saw the car in 2002 in Las Vegas) and someone else had a turbo.

This company has converted them, for the W126 cars and I have heard they
are still in buisiness. It's an expensive proposition though
http://www.mosselmanturbo.com/

The owner of the website at mbcoupes owns a shop, and it's mentioned on his site. He could advise you. His personal car is a beautiful '89 car, that he has put in a Mercedes V12, after first putting in a V8 M119 motor. His applications are very reliable and complete.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpytnbbMfyw

He's the one person I would be willing to leave my car with, throw money at it, and say: "Make Nice"

Great guy with a great reputation, Satish Tummala knows and loves the 560SEC. His shop is in Michigan.

Wow, Thanks all.
For all of the info. I talk to Jon all the time on the phone. Guess because the subject has not been mentioned between us, he never brought it up. I'll be talking to a few of these guys about it. I have video if Satish Tumalla's car, and pics also. I didn't know however, that he is so reputable, and so into it. I'm in Michigan tonight, and run from Greer, South Carolina, to Michigan three times a week, on my BMW account currently. I will be in touch with him at some point in the morning if I can. Thanks again guys.

Ah, Noted, and very enlightening. I'd love to put a V12 in mine instead, but where the heck would I even find one...? Not the money, but the engineering involved in it, sounds like a lot more work than I have time to do. Unless I brought my car to him, and kept throwing money at him, to do the same to mine, as he did to his own V12 car. My car would take 15 more years to get done, because I only have like ten minutes a month to actually work on the thing..

Not whole cars, just parts.

When I go in there, there are trucks picking up, or dropping empty containers off for everyone. Chrysler, Toyota, Ford, G.M., Mercedes, and a host of others. Glass, is made by a company called "Guardian". They also produce it for everyone, and have various locations throughout the U.S. I pick up everything from body panels, to exhaust brackets, to harnesses, fasteners, glass, and hvac systems.

I have an account with a contractor called CEVA, which is intertwined with BMW. A few of my trucks, and me, haul trailers full of empty shipping containers, out to the various manufacturers, of the parts, and pick up loaded shipping containers, back to the plant.
I run from Greer, S.C. to points in Michigan, Indiana, and Tennesee, to swap out empty containers, for full ones, and back to Greer,S.C. BMW plant.

I see B.M.T. trucks at the plant, going in and out all day. They are a very busy company. I also see Wagoner's, going in and out. Aparently, they have a huge account with BMW also.

Sounds like a sweet job. How much does a trucker get paid usually? I've always wanted to do it..

You are from Michigan, what is whole story there? I know the first engine was the 6.0 motor in his SEC that went, but no one really proved he blew it up, that I ever heard.....
the second replacement engine was the M119 '92 SL engine, and I never knew why it was replaced, did it grenade? Did Axel Wulff in Pa. buy it?

What I DO know personally, is that his work is thorough, and he's probably the world's best expert on the 560SEC, and his engines like the M119 and the V12 are very clean installs, made to appear as though done by the factory, with all wiring harness, emissions, and other impedimentia perfectly done.

That said, he has a VERY heavy go foot, I know that. I tried to race him one night on the road to the SF airport near where his cousin Sunil lived, and he simply walked away from me at 100 mph.

I know also that he knows the cars inside out and has his own shop now.
It would be cool to see it.

V12 or turbo/twin turbo into 560SEC?

Interesting conundrum.....Jonothan knows more than me, as he is seriously into the W126ers, and I hope he can prove the doubters and naysayers wrong with his twin turbo set up.

But I have heard many times, that in general, a turbo set up on the 560 engine is setting it for great stresses on the transmission, engine, and motor itself.

I have heard no such thing with the W140 engine, that is, the 600 V12.
Satish has proved it can be done and it works.

They are not impossible to find. In the USA, be sure to try and get a 1992 example, though, they have 408 hp. They show up in wrecking yards from time to time, you ought to be able to find one. Satish's section in www.mbcoupes.com "My 32 valve conversion" section tells in detail how the junkyard motor was removed, and installed in the SEC.

Due to emissions controls, the later ones, starting in 1993, were 389 hp.

Of course, the later 600 V12 engines,
around 2005, have 493 hp I believe, but don't know for sure how compatible they would be. Probably would be hard to find one in the wrecking yards though unless you got lucky.

(Don't despair, it could work. I don't know why some people keep trashing you, a constipated lawyer called JD I am thinking of, never mind him)

Still worth taking a look at the alternatives....
