Mr Walgamuth, I'm sure things will go quite well for you. In fact, I know things will go quite well for you. I'm not surprised at all you were offered the position, plus you have so much experience. Bon courage!

good luck tom,you will do fine. the economy has changed everything for everyone. i work as a mechanic for a equipment company and had gotten really used to the 60hrs a week (mon -fri) paychecks. around feb. the housing market fell and we suddenly started losing hours. imagine living for several years on those checks and then suddenly dropping to 40. i made it work but it was hard. were workin around 50 now. i def. feel your pain.

it will all work out

I've been slowly making some life style changes of my own, trying to get a gauge on what the future has in store, and trying to be prepared for it, hence the prediction of $4/gallon gas coming true, and the economy failing. I have been toying with getting a part-time job, and getting a bit more of a cash reserve built up, just in case I need it in the future.

Just a little gray at the temples here!

I start the new job at Purdue tomorrow. First day is all orientation meetings. I think I am going to feel like a college freshman again!

I am looking forward to it.

Tom:
In 1993 our college hired a project manager for some new construction. In 2004 he was appointed college president. I expect the same from you.

Good luck.

My Architectural practice of over thirty years has failed completely to provide any significant income so far in 2008 as well.

So I have been selling things off to reduce debt as much as possible and exploring employment opportunities.

So in the last two weeks a couple of life changing opportunities have come my way.

First I am going to work for Purdue University in the Office of the University Architect as a project manager on July 28. I will miss the freedom to come and go as I please but will not miss the dependency of private pracitce on a healthy economy, and I will have significant benefits such as more vacation paid than I have ever been comfortable taking while self employed. The toughest thing will probably be being at work at seven am. But I'll be off by four so I can get some things done before supper.

Almost the same time I made contact with a fellow in the UK who has signed an agreement to buy my old Ferrari for enough money to pay down some significant debt. I'll miss her but won't miss the payments.

So I'll have some money to do some fun things with my autrosser but I'll be spending less time here.

Tomorrow is your first day on the job. I am certain that you will enjoy it tremendously. The Boilermakers have done well to hire you.

I was Assistant Gen'l Counsel at a major So. Cal. University. I enjoyed being on campus. I felt like I was still a student, which I really enjoyed.

The benefits of a steady paycheck, health insurance, and paid vacation are hard to pass by. I think that you will enjoy the experience--and will not have to worry where your next paycheck is coming from.

Congrats--and look if Obama gets elected the economy should bounce and...wait, what am I saying, Wall Street prefers McCain.

Tom,

Congatulations!!! The new changes will be progressive for you.

Does the President of Purdue, drive a Mercedes-Benz? This will be your first assignment, if you wish to choose it. Maybe a DIESEL!

Sounds like a great opportunity and I'm sure you will do well at your new job.
Tell us after your day of orientation, what you think of it all.

YIA...Paul

In nine years I still will be younger than John McCain!
