John Madden Retires

As much as I used to make fun of him for his insanely obvious comments, I did enjoy listening to him as a commentator. I really like the combo of him and Al Michaels.

They are saying that Cris Collinsworth will replace him. I guess I won't be listening to the broadcasters anymore when I watch MNF as he is with out a doubt the worst commentator to listen to. I can't stand Collinsworth.

NEW YORK - John Madden is retiring from football announcing, where his enthusiastic, down-to-earth style made him one of sports’ most popular broadcasters for three decades.
The Hall of Fame coach spent the last three seasons on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.” His final telecast was the Super Bowl in February.
“You know at some point you have to do this — I got to that point,” Madden said on his Bay Area radio show Thursday. “The thing that made it hard is not because I’m second guessing, ‘is it the right decision?’ But I enjoyed it so damn much.

I hope he still does the ACE Hardware commercials....it just won't be the same without him.

I will miss the guy, but he has become older than the hills and deserves to take it easy. I 'm sure the long bus rides were wearing him out.

I also hope we will still see him in the Ace commercials.

Honestly, I would listen to Kornheiser all day before I could listen to Collinsworth for a minute. I usually don't watch MNF except when the Vikes are on it anyways so I can grin and bear it once or twice a year.

I’ll miss Madden. I too, hope he stays with Ace.

So long as they don’t bring back Dennis Miller, I really don’t care who it is.

I’d rather turn the sound off and the subtitles on than to have to listen to a single word out of Miller.

I always thought Madden. more than anyone else, exemplified the Raider's long lost "Commitment to Excellence"

http://www.contracostatimes.com/sports/ci_12158910
Madden made sure to point out that he reached this decision before the NFL released its schedule this week. That schedule revealed no games in California for "NBC Sunday Night Football," meaning Madden likely would spend yet another season away from home (unless the Raiders and 49ers do something remarkable to warrant a switch to that prime-time show thanks to NFL's flex scheduling.)

"The main problems here, unfortunately, the Raiders, the 49ers and football on the West Coast is not as strong as it was," Madden's agent Sandy Montag said in a media conference call. "And John, who lives in the Bay Area, never gets home during the season. When you're 73 years old, your priorities change.

"He has a life, he has a family, he has a great wife, great grandkids, great kids, and he wasn't seeing them. At 73, you decide I want do some other things. When you don't fly and can't get home between games, you can't do all those things. The world of football will miss John Madden. He's meant a lot to different generations."

Happy Trails John.

"Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble. "
John Madden

That's a loss to broadcasting. In order to fill John Madden's spot they need to find a person for the job.

John Madden, living legend.

Maybe he'll just do the games close to home.

probably mean I wouldn't get to hear him announce for the Black and Silver
