Osama's Smoke Silver Diesel Mercedes

guys, apparently OBL drove a gold (read: smoke silver) diesel mercedes, according to this article:
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jPPZLl26TUXJRagn8849cHhKB9oQ

the only question is, was it a w114/115, w123, w116, w126, w201 or w124? we know he's been in hiding since the early 90's, so it's got to be a gold colored diesel before then.

his wife said he drives fast, so i'm guessing that eliminated the w123 and w126, and probably also the w116 and 114/115 chassis. my money's with a 2.5 TD, either 190d or 300d.

what's your best guess as to what chassis he drove? think about it, if we figure this out we could be that much closer to nabbing this guy once and for all

Well here's an idea ! why not ask him in person, have one of his pals tell where he is,
and we ask our good and brave soldiers to stop by his cave to get an answer!

Only the good Lord should judge OBL

It is up to the US Military to arrange the meeting.

I can't see anywhere where it says it was a Diesel Powered Mercedes.

It would most likely have been between graduating high school and getting deeply involved in the Afghan war. He was pretty preoccupied between 1984 and '89. I'm guessing he might have had the same car throughout the Afghan/Soviet war. If it's a sedan, it had to have been either, a 116, 126, or 123. They were available in Gold. However, his neighbor in Jedah reports that he had a gray Mercedes Sedan during his later years in Jedah. He had a Lincoln before the Mercedes. This was the era he is reported to have been seen driving his cars very fast.

After the war ended he moved his wives from Saudi Arabia to Sudan. He's not a real flashy person, so I'm guessing it was some sort of 201 or 124. I haven't heard any reports of him driving his cars very fast while he lived in Sudan, so if it was a Diesel, I would think the car in question would have to be from this era. The roads were pretty bad too. In the meantime, he reportedly favored Toyota Landcruisers. Since by this time he wouldn't allow his kids to laugh or play with toys, or his wife to run the Air conditioning in the house, I doubt his car was anything real fancy. He ws deported from Sudan in 1996, so I doubt its anything newer than that.

In Tora Bora he has no place to park.

Isn't life grand.. This guy went from a loving family, growing sunflowers and driving fast in a Benz, to scurrying from cave to cave like the rat he is.

What a waste.

a 126 or 123 with the venerable 110 engine. Since he is a pretty tall fellow from a family with money I lean toward the 126....nothing would beat one or the other of these for fast driving on horrid roads and keeping together.

Quote from the article:
"Soon after, bin Laden began to travel to Pakistan and Afghanistan to fight against the Soviet occupation, returning to tell his sons tales of battles in Afghan caves and mountains under Soviet fire."

End of quote.

One cannot stop wonder WHO sponsored him????

He had lots of help, including from the CIA. Pakistan had no desire to become another Soviet State. The US, having royally screwed up our relationship with Iran had lots of motivation to keep Afghanistan, Pakistan and even Iran, away from Soviet control. Ronald Reagan was not going to let the Soviet Union expand. Osama was our ally.

So, are you saying Reagan made him a powerful man?

Nope.

I think Osama would have turned out similar, either way. Also, I don't think there were any outward signs Osama had a screw loose till the early 90s.

The Russians weren't trying to liberate Afghanistan, they wanted to conquer it. Reagan and Bin Laden were both on the right side during the Soviet/Afghan war.

Even the Soviet Union was on the right side of history once, during WWII. As soon as it was over, they flipped the other way. They wanted to control Iran, and have access to the Persian Gulf, which is why the Shah asked the US Army to maintain a presence in his country.

Otherwise the Soviets would have taken over Iran very easily. Just like they were trying to do in Afghanistan as soon as the US Army presence left the region, in 1979.
