EDIT:- Sorry I've put this in DD - can someone move it to OD for me please - we don't need to clutter up DD with this sort of rubbish!

Weighing down is pretty much useless.....However they could be somewhat useful for carrying sand to throw under the tire in the event of getting stuck.
