Hehehehe. Young and dumb.... In Mexico!

I have hit some pretty ridiculous speeds in Porsches... But only in Mexico.

If I had Porschebux to spend I'd get a 911.

So presumably it's in the shop for the other 3 days

I came close to buying one about 15 years ago. I drove several and loved driving them. What's not to love when in the drivers seat?

I backed away from the idea when I started doing some research on parts prices. Of course, parts for any low production super car will be expen$ive.

Keep us posted.

I have seen a few over the years that seemed like such a good deal. I asked about the good and bad and was told that they shoot $50 bills out the tailpipe the whole time you are driving ... until your pocket is empty.

i've driven about 130 a couple of times in ordinary cars on ordinary roads. I pick my places for lack of traffic, trees, telephone poles and officers of th elaw.

I rode in a Viper once that my client got up to about 165 on a public not limited access four lane. it was between crossroads. empty road, accelerated up to it and right back down before the next crossroad.

Fierce acceleration and brakes like running into a huge marshmallow. No drama whatsoever.

He scared me a lot more at about half that speed when he downshifted, floored it and got a little sideways on a two lane with ditches and fences both sides.

I had one for over 10 years and it was a nearly daily used vehicle. Lovely driving experience. It was very well balanced and handled better than 911s I drove, mostly due to the lack of spontaneous over-steer that’s typical of 911s. Plus it was as comfortable and quiet as my W124. It got obnoxious numbers of looks and comments.

It was respectably fast. It had an auto box with the same kind of downshift switch that some MBs have. When you floored it, it would accelerate nicely. If you pressed a bit harder to activate the switch, the transmission would smartly down-shift to the lowest gear it could and then push you against the very comfortable seatback while trying to pull your foot off the gaspedal; all while causing an ear to ear grin.

The downside is that while mine required no more frequent maintenance than any of my MBs, I was not able to find a competent mechanic. After over a decade of trying dealers and indes recommended by the local PCA, and being frustrated nearly every time, I gave up on the brand and went to MB.

At this point if I was looking for another older car, I’d go for a 90’s or older iteration SL over a 928. Over time I learned to disrespect Porsche mechanics for their combined arrogance and common incompetence with the vehicle. To porsche mechanics there are 911s and boxters, and then there is everything else, which the evidence clearly shows they are too stupid to fix without given several opportunities to proudly display their bumbling-fumbling ineptitude.

I've had my Vette topped out at 150 and I've had my 300E over 140. Those telephone polls click by at that speed.

In Germany I've driven an Audi A4 turbo'd sport suspension model at about 125 MPH for extended distances. What a hoot!

That's been posted on Rennlist for a while. He wanted $22k, recent post said dealer would give him $13k. Might be a well sorted car, but only good records and a PPI would tell.
