Keep this in Mind on Memorial Day
For Americans, only two people have volunteered to die for you, the American Soldier for your freedom and security and Jesus Christ for your Soul.

That statement is so over-simplifed, incorrect and so utterly wrong on so many levels that it's not worthy of further discussion.
But welcome back on here. this sentiment is better phrased, I think: it's found on the thread about thanking a U.S. military person, seen elsewhere and a memorial statement: Life is a blessing and often taken for granted. An extra blessing was given us in freedoms granted by service men and women who've served and laid down their own lives. America is beautiful because of the fallen. It remains so because of our present soldiers. Never forget – then or now.

As a young child growing up in Marin County California, I was in the Episcopal church choir at St. John's for many years;
This was Hymn 553 in the church hymnal. I sang it many times. How well I remembered : thought I had forgotten. cue the music: http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh575.sht ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle see his banners go! Refrain: Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. 2. At the sign of triumph Satan's host doth flee; on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory! Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise; brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise. (Refrain) 3. Like a mighty army moves the church of God; brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod. We are not divided, all one body we, one in hope and doctrine, one in charity. (Refrain) 4. Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane, but the church of Jesus constant will remain. Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail; we have Christ's own promise, and that cannot fail. (Refrain) 5. Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng, blend with ours your voices in the triumph song. Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King, this through countless ages men and angels sing. (Refrain)

Well, I can tell right away that the hate for me hasn't fainted away with time.
BTW, Memorial Day is an American holiday as far as I know. The American Soldier volunteered to die for the freedom and security of our Americans, but Jesus volunteered to die for your soul regardless of where you live on Earth. Keep up the good hate!

My draft lottery number is 9. Even at the induction station, they give you the "choice"to step forward and serve or refuse. Anyone who wears the uniform is my brother or sister, regardless of rank. That's something people who have not been in the military can never understand. No offense, just the truth, just like I as a man, can never understand what it means to give birth. It's like being a cop, an EMT or a firefighter. You end up being in a group that is apart from others.

VERY well put Strelnik! Thanks for posting it. There was no lottery when I was about to be drafted. In 1968 when you turned 19 and weren't married with a child or in college full time you went, period. So I joined and got a good school out of the deal. Even the draftees that I was in withknexcept for a few cowards that found a way out early were as you describe and they are all my brothers and sisters.
