yes. in times of crisis, ideologues who live in some bizarre fantasy world - and sell same world to their adherents - often prosper, however briefly. ron paul "true believers" also come to my mind. as do the late, doomed "ghost shirts". Ghost shirt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. however, back in the real world, life goes on. the rich get richer, the poor get ... children, as the song says, etc.

Now that the Repos have control of both houses of the legislature AND the gov office (in my state), we have entered the silly season of cultural conservatism but have not yet abandoned the crazed world of fiscal liberalism. A perfect storm of fooking crazy.

Even an idiot (I hope) might recognize that a balance of power protects us all.

I thought the members of the Oklahoma Ledge were idiots, but it turns out that not all of them are.

The Governor here made it her number one goal to get rid of the state income tax. She introduced a proposal for study. The Dems asked to see the Bill and she told them to wait. So the Republicans asked to see the Bill and she told them to wait, too. Not being idiots several of the Ledge members thought they smelled a Rat.

She finally produced the Bill with one day left in the Session. The vote was to be the next day and she said she would not call a Special Session to deal with it. Anyone who did not vote to cut taxes would have to face the wrath of the voters.

So the bill got voted down by the Republican House and the Republican Senate. It turns out that the Bill did cut taxes by .45 of one percent (from 5.25 to 4.80) for anyone who made over $249,999 a year. It raised taxes by 60% on anyone who made less than $16,000 a year. All other income groups saw no change in their state taxes.

She was not happy, but I know several of the Republican Ledge members who said they told her they were rather unhappy themselves since they had been supporting this thing and then found they had to vote against it.

Now there is talk, by the Governor, that it appears several people have changed Parties since they did not vote the way they were told.

The funny thing is that just might take place since there are some Republicans griping about how they can no longer support the Governor. Pulling sneaky stuff on others is OK with them, but when the sneaky stuff is being pulled on them...........

As more time passes, the more people will realize that Speaker Pelosi made an excellent point when she said that about the health care bill. Opponents of the bill were spreading so much disinformation about the bill, people didn't know what to believe. Both she and the opponents of the bill knew that once the bill was in effect, people would realize that it was not as portrayed by the critics and that it in fact has stuff that they really want. Unless the Supreme Court pulls the rug from under the bill, people are going to realize that the bill makes a lot of sense, which is exactly what its critics don't want. Her statement was good, common sense.

You're right: The only way to know how we might get fooked is to actually get fooked. I mean, why would anybody want to speculate, ask about or know in advance?

I don't understand your question. It seems obvious to me that legislators would want to know in advance so that they would know whether to vote for the bill. What's your point?

I WISH this was true.
Too many pages, too many people "bought", too much done behind closed doors, too many new taxes, too many new bureaucracies.

The concept of universal, affordable healthcare is laudable, but this attempt at implementation is too flawed to be allowed to stand.

Are you saying that it is good common sense to vote on a bill whether it is one page or 2,000 pages without knowing what's in it? Very interesting.
