Cownibullism?

Just to be clear: there's no evidence that any of the animals were afflicted with BSE or even fed with offal. There's a remote chance that the meat was contaminated with brain tissue, but even that isn't clear.

Yes, somebody didn't have the paperwork to show that the spinal tissue was removed. However, if the industry would just stop the practice of feeding cattle meat processing discards as "protein meal" to other cattle, it probably wouldn't be an issue in a few generations.

As far as I know, this was never a major issue in the US since corn-based feed was cheap.

And banned, as to cows, in 1997, but still allowed for pet food, pigs and chickens. Also allowed is the use of "chicken litter" as a protein additive in livestock feed.

Quit complaining; these are government approved processes which have been thoroughly tested by the FDA and therefore comply with government regulations. They represent a sincerely desire to maintain a safe food supply for public consumption. Now, back to that big juicy steak, YUM!

I also have a 'sincerely desire' or 2, but might be better to not share here

I buy dog food that has meat products for the main ingredients. The goats show no interest in the dog food but I think I have seen the cow eat some of it. Uh, oh. Mad cow.

Goats won't go near any feed that smells the slightest of animal fat. IME neither will cattle or sheep. The concentrates fed to cattle containing beef byproducts have been processed to the point the beef protein is unrecognizable.

I didn't say sanitized, just processed so the cattle aren't aware they're eating meat.
