I am guessing the first thing I would catch with a snap trap would be a nosy Cat and maybe incure a vet bill.
I guess peanut butter it is.

Snap traps when needed seem to work the best in my area. The live trapping ones not so much. Almost everyone seems to use peanut butter.

Since it is Halloween time I get to tell the Halloween mouse story.
My Wife had stored 3 ears of Indian Corn for part of a Halloween decoration. She pulled them out and every kernel of Corn was gone but there was logs of mouse shiet in the Box giving a clue as to what happened to the kernels.

That other trap is very interesting. What do you do with the live mouse? My Oma's place where Dad has lived since the divorce was over run with gophers after Opa couldn't get out (he was a great trapper and wish I had been older when he tried teaching me) and only got worse when I left as no one went out and gardened (human activity seems to reduce, but not eliminate). Went he quit watering, they still were multiplying. Will have to ask if still around now that you have a hypothesis.

My house I am living in does not have window screens and the landlord refuses to do anything with the property (including mold which I took care of on my own cost). Have found Daithi to be a great benefit: flies rarely last more than a day, especially if get caught in one of the low windows. So yes, seen those very fast and powerful jaws. He does a double snap that is very impressive and very effective. Only dog ever had to succeed in catching a fly. He has a VERY high prey drive, so the first week with the roommate cat was a challenge, no chasing as doesn't run, but too interested. Then one day the 14 year old cat had enough: got on her back legs and boxed his muzzle, claws in. He was SO stunned! LOL But, outside, they run and takes a lot to get him to refocus on me. Hoping he will grow out of it. Amazing PVC is a narcotic. That explanation is much more reasonable than the need to chew. Loath rodents: destroyed 40 years of Wall Streets and Life magazines. I also found out I am VERY allergic and a face mask does nothing for me. If ever have to clean up, will get a respirator or a dive mask. Don't want to end up in the hospital again. Quote:
How about a cat bell on his collar? Put one on a cat that had as a lad and took care of it. Just a thought...

I am by no means afraid of spiders, but that is a bit big to be living loose in my house. Though think Daithi kill it first. ;/

The cat I had as a lad was a pet, but he earned his keep by killing the roof rats. Though had to learn to be careful when stepped out onto the step below.

I am OK with just putting the Mouse somewhre outside. I have caught Gophers and I put them in a bucket and take them to an empty lot and dump them there. Don't put 2 Gophers in the same bucket as the fight. When I did that the one Gopher bit and broke the leg of the other Gopher. I have noticed that when the Gophers are young they do not tunnel as deep as the older one do so that when you first see a tunnel is the time to get the Hose into it and get the Gopner out and I grab them with a Barboq tongs. I have poisoned both Mice and Gophers (when they got bad enough) but I had no Cats at that time. I managed 2 head shots on Gophers with my Pellet Rifle (I just happen to come a corss them when their heads were bobbing in and out) but there is a School a cross the Street; not a good place to sit out in front of your House holding something that looks like a real Gun. Since I have had a bunch of Feral Cats, Gophers when they show up don’t last long and that extends for several houses in each direction.

These work best...brand X I believe. Some brands don't work very well. I have used plastic snap traps too with success.
I don't know why anyone would use live traps on mice. They're cute but can do a lot of damage in a hoouse or car and their defecation stinks. Yeah, peanut butter is good.

I've found these traps to be very effective. The bait setup gets the mouse in the neck every time. https://www.walmart.com/ip/40267279?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227027937164&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=55444459151&wl4=pla-91499560391&wl5=9018768&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=40267279&wl13=&veh=sem

If one of my Cats gets snapped or poisoned due to me using poison I would deem that as pretty bad. Also I have x2 poisoned mice and they did not leave the building as the instructions say happens and died in the house and the dead bodies stank a bit. I get ruthless with Cockroaches which I have had x2. I allowed my Friends to store their Furniture in my Garage when their Apartment flooded and did not think of where the Cockroaches would go to avoid the water. They sought higher ground inside of the Furniture. I saw one Cockroach in my House and lager went out to my Garages and saw what must of been hundreds of them everywhere. What saved me from the bulk of them was it had been raining and there was a sizable puddle between the House and the Garage. 2 Roach spray balms took care of the ones in the garage. It took 3 weeks to kill of the ones that have gotten in my House. The last time I had them they either came from My neighbor who sold Mail Order stuff from Taiwan or the School a cross the street. I would spray Black Flag outside of the door step and a ways up on the side of the Door and would find them dead on the door step. Since then an occasional single Roach shows up maybe once a year. My neighbor stopped selling stuff so I am guessing they came from the School. A book I read no them has that they need a lot of Water. When they come from the School it is during the summer and one that was large enough to make the trip a cross the street. Note I also think my Cats kill them as I occasionally find them dead but torn up out side. I left out Mosquitos. Hate those. The Harbor Freight insect killer that is the shape of a tennis racket kills them reliably if you can get hold of the killer and keep track of the Mosquito. I even got lucky x2 swinging the thing over my bed trying to follow the sound in the dark. Ont type of Spider likes to hang out above the Toilet. I usually get a glass or Jar and get it into that and dump the spider outside.
