50th anniversary

Of high school graduation. Went back to Greencastle for it yesterday afternoon and evening. Lots of old friends. Memories of foolish actions and words always flood my mind.

Apparently at this age there is possibly a turning point that all do not hit at the same time as some of us look pretty great and a few look like they are fifteen years older than the rest of us.

Only one fellow I hung around with was there. We were close in Junior high mostly. Lots of gals that I was friends with and or dated were there. We had a good time talking about lots of stuff and never did any of us mention the fact that we had dated.

One gal who lost her husband a few years back was being hustled by one of our most notorious play boys who has been married and divorced more than once and is single now apparently.

She escaped though I think as I walked with her on the way to my room and she peeled off about six before me.....er, went into her room.

My 10 year is coming up soon. I'm not sure i'll go or not as I didn't really have close friends in high school.

How many of you guys are left? Tough knowing so and so didn't make it.

My 50 th is in November. I have made the reunions before, but not sure I am going to do this one. My wife went to all the others with me. An Army buddy of mine who was born the same day as myself went to his this past weekend. It was the first reunion he had ever been to and had a great time.

Congratulations on being one of those still standing Tom.

We've lost 25 out of about 173, the first loss was in the first 5 years. I imagine we'll lose quite a few in the next 5.

I had a pretty good buddy in high school named Clyde. I have not seen him on face book in a while so I asked a mutual friend Gordon about Clyde. Gorden said he passed 2 years ago. I said what from? Gordon said he was walking from his house to his car and had a massive heart attack and dropped dead. (Now this next thing that happened is a common reaction to people my age) about 5 people all said at once "That's the way to go!"

I said, "Yeah, no suffering!"

When you moved as far away from your old friends and aquaintences as we did. Sporatic contact presents all sorts of suprises. Now I have reached age where the decimation of our age group is certainly underway.

I have to make a business trip back again soon so will of course take the time to see a few of them. I am still doing a little business for the benefit of two of our son in laws and one younger brother in law.

It does surprise me that many of them could not comprehend why we went initially. I think some of their subsequent visits enlightened them. There is just no essential rat race here. It is extremely laid back in comparison. No immigration at all mind the massive immigration they have experienced and no pressure disease either.

My 10 year went by a couple years ago. Most of my friends from HS are all over the country (me included) and must of us still keep in touch via social media. The people who went were mostly just broad acquaintances, didn't really miss much.
