Uh-Oh, Rolls blew the headgasket!
On friday my dad was driving the rolls, and the top hose blew.
Towed the car to the shop. We recieved the bad news today. Headgasket is blown. I guess it was time. with 200-250k on the odo, the car has lasted my father well. he's done anywhere from 170-220k in the car. Amazing for a rolls, most people dont drive them and they have like 30k miles max even after 30 years. He now has to decide. Rebuild, or replace with this nice cornice convertible with 20k on it, where the top has been down 3 times in its life, and the car has been serviced exclusively at the Beverly Hills Rolls Dealer. Such bad news for such a beautiful car, it really did drive like it was driving on pillows, and is one of my favorite cars to drive because it just drove like a dream, and got more looks than any car I have been in. Anyway, I just wanted to share. the Rolls might end up RIP, but hopefully my father will either fix it, or replace it with a nicer one. Alon

What a waste if it were to be retired.
Bring it over and I'd give you a buck for the trouble ...

I don't know if the engine in the Rolls is a pushrod engine or not, but if so, the gasket replacement *should* be quite straightforward. Assuming that the gasket is that engines only ailment, and there is no need for any other machining, then it could be made awesome once again.
If you dad does retire it, what would he want for a sales price? It just *might* by some slim hope be in my price range. |

Actually a chevy conversion could be done as it is a GM tranny.
But my father hasn't decided on what he will do. I hope he gets the cornice convertible he saw. That would be nice. Alon

Stick a built 427 in there....and turn it into a sleeper.
Hey, it started life with a British version of an American pushrod V-8....I think it'd be appropriate. And what rice-rocket would expect a Rolls-Royce to smoke its tires for 30 feet under hard acceleration? -Sam |

I agree - put a big block Chevy in it (454 cu in - hot rodded up).
