W126 drivers....How do you drive your 126?

How do you w126 drivers usually drive your benz most of the time? Slow......cruising speed.......quick pace with fast acceleration????

Well, a little of both.

First I have to admit I have a heavy foot, occupational hazard maybe. Any way I seem to go a little faster than the general flow of traffic. I like to start off slow and easy as that's when the 560 gets the best in town mileage. On the highway I build gently, to better than highway speed. Although every now and again I do like the powerful sensation of rapid acceleration. The 560 really sets you back into the seat .

Of the many powerful cars I have driven and been a passenger the 126 420 sel comes to mind. This guy had well over 100k on his and it took off like a rocket and easily as impressive as my GT Mustang at the time. I can't imagine the power of a 560. It must be a lot of fun. I wonder what they top out at without limiters?

They do go fast but isnt it bad for it sortive to push it? Even if the engine is well maintained?

I drive mine gentle but at times with much persuasive power. However, whether its gentle or otherwise, the road-handling is ever predictable and steady.

Its always nice to know that I can always rely on the power whenever needed. Even when the 126 looks really big for size.

TANK...

My previous '88 420SEL topped out at 131mph. I drove it fast all the time. Cops never even saw me. Nothing can be farther from attracting a cops attention than an big, old mercedes. I loved it. Handled great for a big car, so predictable too. Especially with the 8" wide wheels and 245 width yokohamas.

I drove the 500 with my heavy foot I would get up to speed without getting on the gas pedal but I could never feel the speed untill I was going way to fast. It was great you know what the car is going to do when you take a sharp turn no guessing involved. I only floored it once to get onto I-95 because of a short on ramp the sound of all that power being forced almost hurt my ears.

I enjoy the sound the 3.8 liter V-8 makes when it gets over 5,000 rpms, say in second gear at around 64 mph, when tearing up a freeway onramp.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it more when the car gets a replacement engine for the old one that slipped its timing chain.

What chain??? My chain is perfect and has been replaced to double many many years ago! Or else their would be no tearing up highway ramps!

Yes, the 380SE's double row timing chain slipped 3 links at 196K miles, about a week and a half ago. Our fault for not putting a new chain and tensioner in there earlier. Anyway.....
