My Racing Weekend (pics)

Spent the weekend and Oulton Park in the North of England, an excellent track with straights, twists, and lots of crests hills and bumps, helping out a nearby company who run historic racing cars for clients.

We ran, amongst others, a 1969 Brabham BT26 Formula 1 car:

Brabham BT23B:

Jack Brabham (or 'Sir' Jack Brabham) 3 times Formula 1 World Champion did a demo run in the F1 BT26 (a Ford-Cosworth-DFV V8 engined car), and Rob Wilson drove it for practice & race. We also had Ron Tauranac, the original designer of the car and the 'T' in 'BTxx', there helping out with setup... he had us changing springs, toe, camber, tire pressures all in one sitting (all remarkably quick & easy)... here's me working with him (OK I admit it looks like I'm just standing around) Rob Wilson is on the right:

Working on the car while Jack was around was tricky with all cameras and autograph hunters around Here, he's getting into the car before his run.

The car stalled on his run and wouldn't restart - the electric fuel pump gave up (damn Lucas). Would have run on the mechanical pump if it would've started, but instead it decided to.. err catch fire
Scary stuff!!! Fortunately no real damage (can't imagine what the car is actually worth), the on-board extinguisher was activated and worked well, but the car couldn't race :-(
It was an enjoyable 3 days, I was even on TV standing with Jack and Ron!!

later!!

To breathe the same air as Jack Brabham is truly an honour...congratulations on taking part in the event and thanks for the pics.
