Question Paint color , original MB or other ?

I own an 89 420SEL pearl grey and a 79 450SLC pastel yellow . Both cars are original MB colors for their years . We are getting ready to have the 450SLC painted and am in a quandry over color . I have seen silver SL s and that sport color really looks good on this model but the pastel yellow color is original and distintive (attractive too) . Many Mercedes purists would not even think of a non MB color . May I have your thoughts and opinions ? (My 420SEL will be repainted the same color , it just goes perfect with the 126 body style ) . Thank you ... Mark

I have the origional mittelrot (medium red) paint on. I'd say stay with the MB paint... it'll last longer, and it's better for resale.

Original colors...

I am with Bill and Robert on this. Original colors all the way.

Robert, I finally got the meaning of your license plate/nickname. Sometimes I can be so dense.

I agree, go with origninal colors.

I don't know if the car you're going to have repainted is your daily driver or something more important, but you may consider this to save some money on the repaint:

Last summer a friend of mine had his car repainted by first purchasing the paint himself and then dropping the car off at the local high school where the paint-shop class painted it FOR FREE! I suppose the only drawback, other than having novices do the work, is having to do without the car for a longer period of time than if it were put into a regular shop.

They did an adequate job, if you're looking for a basic job, not showroom quality.

BTW, they dropped the hardtop during the semester and had to replace the rear window, also for free. He was pretty satisfied withe the overall work.

Silver is the most boring color on this planet. About 70 % of all new Mercedes are silver. The police, the railroad, the Bundeswehr, they all lease silver cars now.

Go for the original, this color belongs to the car.

Kind regards
Eberhard

Just the civil used vehicles are silver (used to be dark blue)

Vehicles for field are still camouflaged

On the other hand: In any conflict in an urban environment you wouldn't notice a silver tank nowadays

Kind regards
Eberhard
