Polish Special Forces in action- pics posted!
Well, I am SOOOOOOO proud to be Polish-American (well, Polish citizen residing in the US, really, but after 20 years here..).
Reuters posted about a week ago photos of the Polish Special Forces posing under the picture of Saddam with the American flag in Umm Qasir and transfering Iraqi prisoners capturd on the oil platform to the US Rangers. To the ones of you now snickering ("Polish Special Ops- what to they do-fly backwards?" etc). Polish Special Forces named "Grom" ( loose translation-"sound of thunder", but really named after the Polish General who commanded uprising of Polish underground in Warsaw in 1944) and the Navy commando "Formoza" (historic name) were created in 1990 to specifically operate with the US Navy SEALS, British SAS, and German SGS special forces . They were supported and trained by the US government (Read Delta Force and Navy SEALS), they trained and use the same equipment as the US forces and are considered to be an integral part of the best NATO units (see above). Their part in active combat (they took an oil platform, they actively interdict the boat traffic on the Euphrat River, and are in action in southern Iraq) was supposed to be secret, but Reuters posted their pictures all over Europe, so the secret is out. And since then I hear "US, British, Australian, Polish, and other Coalition forces" every day. This weekend alone I heard : The Pres, Condie Rice, General Franks, General Myers, and two FoxNews experts specifically and separately either praise or just mention the role of Polish guys in Iraq. Needless to say, there are flags of TWO nations flying outside my house tonight (I leave them overnight- my electric bill is gonna kill me...)

I'll post these Reuters' pics soon. they look like real badasses, too. I'm so glad I'm not French or Quebecan (I believe most English-Canadians support the US, at least 50-50).

One Question. . .
Just HOW does a flag flying in front of your house affect your electric bill at all?

The flags are up day and night. According to the code, a flag can fly at night ONLY if it's illuminated. So, I leave the porch light on all night. that's four 100W bulbs

Amen to the Polish special forces!
I wonder how you can tell which soldiers are the Polish ones? I'm assuming that since they are caucasian, they would look like the average white American. I suppose they could have the Polish flag on their uniform, but that wouldn't be very gooooood.

This photo created quite a stir. The biggest prob- it's an American (as opposed to Polish) flag. The second prob (for which all officers were reprimended) is obvious- they have shown their faces!!! apparently, the women back in Europe LOVED it!

I'm missing the best picture where the Polish forces manhandle the captured Iraqis, but this speaks for itself!

patrol of the Umm Qasr harbor before the US Marines took over. Oh, yeah, 120 Navy Seals launched an unspecified assault from the Polish Forces logistics ship in the Gulf (about 7 days ago).

if you wonder how to tell if that's not the Brits/US troops just look at the slight differences in uniform and equipment. Hint-compare the helmets and goggles, plus the cammo is more appropriate for a jungle/europe theatre. Oh, yeah- in the 1991 Gulf war it was this unit who evacuated American diplo dinks ( Navy Seal speak for the diplomats) from Baghdad right before the air assault started. You didn't know that, did Ya???

Dzieki!! A friend from Poland forwarded these pics to me, and in a flurry of "forwards" (all on billable-i.e. client's - time! ) somehow I deleted the best one- Thanx again.
I read an interesting article from last april, that Kwasniewski (Polish Prime Minister) is the leading candidate to lead the political part of NATO. The fact that Poland selected F-16 over the Mirage (and over the screams of French Dessault) did not hurt him either!! Out with the old (French), in with the (eastern european) new!!
