It's a 1953 or 54 Mercury. My dad had the 'sister' to it, a 1953 Ford Customline.

You would be correct. The 53 and 54 had round headlight doors, but he body and roofline were the same.

My folks had a '56, which looks pretty much the same. I think theirs was all white if I remember right.
I remember my dad said he got rid of it because that model had a problem with cracks at the area where the center door post ('B' pillar?) attached to the roof on the 4-doors.
