I'm gonna kill this optical mouse!!

Have a Logitech optical mouse, and the thing seems to have a mind of it's own. Pointer lags behind the movements of the mouse. I've been told to run it on a white sheet of paper,,, I do,, over glass,,, no difference,,, over a mirror,,,, worse. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Get one made by Microsoft. I got one a while back after one of the tech nerds at work (sorry, one of the IT guys that keeps our network going) told me they were the best for optical mice and he is the Linux OS type.

Otherwise have you tried an mouse pad with a glossy surface. Mine won't work on just the desk, or paper, but is fine on any mousepad with a glossy surface.

Check the simplest problem first. I've had my optical mice act screwy only to find a hair or other piece of lint had gotten into the lense area. Removed gunk and all was well in optical world again.

OK,,, went and got a microsoft mouse and a new pad. Actually the pad made the big difference, but the new mouse works great. It says on the box not to use anything reflective.

Well, too late. I was gonna ask if you went to your mouse settings and checked it's accelerator setting. You can change how fast the pointer responds to the mouse movements there.
But nevermind.

I'm very impulsive and do things in a hurry. Gotta get over that.

Yeah, base model microsoft mouses are superior to base model logitech mouses.

But once some coin is involved, the tides turn. The MX series of mouses by logitech (wired MX500 $40, wireless MX700 $65) are by far the best mouses ever made.

For starters, I'm assuming the Optical's are the ones with the red light of some sort at the bottom, correct? Technology is just not my thing, hehe. If so, we have the Logitech brand and it works fine, sometimes it has a mind of its own; the only thing that bugs me is the scrolling thing, I like it but I hate it when it goes down or up further than I command it to.:p Our mousepad obviously seems to play no roll of its mindgames, however, our mousepad seems to be made of some type of fabric.

Have a great day,

-Joshua

I brought the Logitech mouse home and it works perfect on this computer. Oh well, got rid of the old mouse here at home that didn't have the scroll wheel. Since I've been using that feature I really like it.

My staff likes to sneak into my office an put scotch tape over the laser. This affects performance until removed. Very funny!
