how bad is an overfilled tranny?
Alright, my gf and I put more tranny fluid in her nissan altima the other day, we let the car warm up before checking the level of course, i've done this a million times on my cars, she takes it to the dealer to get something else fixed, and they tell her that she needs to fully flush the tranny because it was "severely overfilled"
Correct me if i'm wrong but if it was overfilled wouldn't the excess go out the overflow and the system would correct itself? They want to charge her $100 to flush everything out.

Read the owner's manual.
Most indicate possible damage to the transmission if fluid level is too low OR too high. Same goes for oil. Find a Nissan independent to have the work done. Good luck! |

How overfull is it? a cup, a pint? If you have oil coming out of the overflow on an automatic, you have major problems. The trans is a precise and complicated mechanism that needs just the correct amount of oil. If you put so much in that the rotating shafts contact it, it churns it into a frothing mess. Note that oil with air in it doesn't work well in hydraulic equipment.(an automatic trans)And that is your concern. So get the extra oil out. If you have a bunch of miles on it go ahead and get a trans filter and oil change. If not you can buy a suction gun at Autozone and a small piece of hose to stick into the filler tube and suck the extra oil out. No big deal.
