Mazda manual tranny clutch replacement

I have been asked to consider replacing a clutch in a 1995 Mazda Protege. It is a transverse 4 cylinder car. Anyone ever replaced a clutch in one of these front wheel drive cars? Does the complete engine/tranny have to come out? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks

Hooboy! Don't know. I think diff cars have diff needs. I used to be able to yank a transaxle out of a Honda Civic and leave the engine in place, and visa-versa. But I guess on some cars it's way easier to pull the whole works as a unit. May want to find a Mazda forum somewhere.
