Benzman500, I don't know anything about weightlifting but it just seems supplements are for racehorses and cattle. From what I've heard people waste a lot of money on supplements.

w126 I always get creatine mixed up with creatinine. What are the effects of having too much creatinine in the blood? Is creatine related to creatinine?

I used to be a powerlifter and did the B.S. and M.S. stuff in exercise physiology, and had the C.S.C.S. thing for about 7 years. The rule of thumb from my perspective was that if it's not a drug and if your body's not deficient in it, it probably won't help. While competing, the only supplement I relied on was beer.

While finishing my M.S. though, a fellow student did a study on creatine monohydrate and found that it did indeed promote gains in strength and muscle mass. I never used it, though.

Other things like ephedra-based stuff (now banned?) worked because they were indeed drugs.

whats the deal with ephedra? WIll it make you test postive in drug tests? Or is it specific to testing for ephedra?
It seems that ephedra is a big wieght loss thing out there from what I can see.

I know that the Olympic people test for ephedra, and the ADFPA listed it as a banned substance too. It makes your body secrete norepinephrine. This, along with lowering your appetite, can get you sorta hyped up. I used it while training for and competing in some USPF meets (dunno if they banned it since then) and stayed away from it for several months prior to my ADFPA meets. That taught me that I could do just as well without it, even though I might not have been quite as revved up. Numbers are numbers, and my lifts were pretty much the same either way.
