hee hee, "spriong" suspension . .

From reading the details, it looks like they're using the W124/201 technology in the suspension (5 link in the rear, pneumatic motor mounts, separate coil & strut) and bringing back the 2.3L.

A fella from germany that posts on MBCanada says Mercedes let's them use Benz drivetrains and parts, just not new stuff.

"ssangyong produces a complete car line up and is allowed to use mercedes-benz engines. not the newest ones btw., but the old 2.3 4-cylinder and the inline six are in use. also transmission and some other goodies from older mercedes models. ssangyong is not allowed to export the chairman to europe and i think also not to the u.s. and canada. the production mainly goes to south korea and china. the 4wd cars are available in germany, too."

I bet that goes a way to help support the MB policy of available spare parts for up to 20 year old models. Plus you can just see this approach migrating to mainland china before too long....

Not really a bad rendition is it?

I'll would imagine the electronics are better than some of the original stuff.

They are exported outside of Korea. They sell the 4x4īs here in Guatemala. Never been in one, always have been curious to test drive one. Maybe now that my MIL is in the market for a new car, I will check these out for her.

And yes, they have been putting Mercedes parts in these for a long time. Strange, being mostly mercedes and so forth they are not sold all that much here in Guatemala. I would guess that on an average day I only see 2 of them while I am out and about on the road.

This has been discussed few years ago...

I thought Ssang Yong went down not long ago?? Anyways, YES, the car is based on W124(chassis, engine, tranny), but other than that, 100% Korean..... It even as W124's single-arm wiper... Pretty neat car though as it was available in both regular and LWB version..... 3.2L DOHC was the biggest engine one can get in a Chairman(the car)....

Also, MB owns a big chunk of Ssang Yong back then......
