And since this thread is not island specific, unless the OP was on the big Island, any other Benz owners here?

Any on the Big Island?

Aloha, regarding service for a Benz here in Honolulu, I may also suggest a nice & clean shop, MB Euromotors at 1141 Kona Street in Kakaako near Ala Moana Center. Owner's name is Won. Call 808.597.1171. They are good people.
Good luck!

Nice to see updates to this thread. I am on the Big Island, Kona side. I know there are classic benz here, none on this forum that I know of.
If I get far enough into our OM617 to need any machine services, it will be helpful to have an idea where to take the parts. I may have to ship to mainland?

most decent machine shop should do. I can't imagine the big island not having at least one. not a lot of machining to do. you can't do the crank and the cyl sleeves would need to be replaced if the walls are worn. when I worked at german car service on Oahu long ago we were lucky in having a great place just down the road from us.

Thanks George.
What is up with the crank that it would not be machined? I have not rebuilt an om617 to know what is common.

Thanks.

the 617 is 5 cyl eng. so working on the crank takes special machinery. if you really need a crank then I would contact metric engines in los angeles.

I may in the near future have my OM617 turbo available if I decide to put my M110 in my Jeep Wrangler instead. It has a little over 130,000 miles, runs cherry (still in rotted W123) and can ship it Young Brothers. Going by its dimensions it will be around $50-60 to ship it.

I don't need a crank, just curious why it was suggested nothing else could be machined earlier had not considered the odd cyl count.
