MB shops in Salem, Or area?

My mother just moved to Salem and is having an intermittent problem with her baby, a 60,000 mile 1986 560sl. It's got some sort of problem where it wouldn't start, then the Salem dealer cleaned the fuel lines, then pulled and cleaned the gas tank. Now, it apparently runs ok, but dies when it turns right. The Salem dealer (stealer?) wants to put in $3,000 worth of ignition control module and CISE injection moduel (whatever those are???). I think they are just going to replace stuff til she runs out of money.

I think she needs a good shop that knows how to troubleshoot an older car. I've read good stuff about MBI in Portland on this site, but it's all a couple years old. Anyone have a current recomendation? She'll take the car to Portland, if necessary, but Salem would be much more convenient.

Oh - I also found this - anybody heard of this guy?
"VIP Import Service". The guy's name is Tony. He used to run a shop in Damascus. He's very reasonable, and very honest. He is very legit. His number is 503-519-4828"

Thanks!

I may be biased because the owner is a great friend of mine...but my Benzes wouldn't be running without his expertise!

+1 on Prestige: Mike is still there, with his 2 kids, a mechanic and an apprentice. I use him regularly for things I don't want to do and problems on my 94 E420, the wife's S430. I recently picked up a 240D (manual trans) that his shop had serviced for the last 15 years. Really knows the old Benz cars and is good at diagnosing/fixing only what needs repaired. Don

This past year, I used the dealer, Valley Mercedes for a repair on the wife's S430. Had a negative experience with them 5 yrs ago, but they now have a different service mgr. and actually gave the lowest bid compared with both a Salem and Portland shop. My billed cost was less than they bid, so I also used them for some maintenance on my 94 E420.
