good independent shop for a PPI in Salt Lake City?

Does anyone know a good indie shop in Salt Lake for a PPI? I used the dealer, and they didn't have the equipment for a leakdown test!

That's a little scary. Garff can't do a leakdown test? The local shop I've heard about most is Werner's. I haven't used him myself, don't have contact info. (I'm sure you can look it up), but he's been used with positive results by a very skilled DIY'er locally.

Max's Mercedes

Hi, I have found that Max's Mercedes to be the ONLY place I take my car. The guy is honest, and his rates are very reasonable. He is on something like 1750 s Major street. Which is parallel between state and main. Phone number is 484-2388 . He has been working on Mercedes all his life, and his knowledge is amazing. Tell him Jason sent you. I went to Ken Garff to pick up an oil filter wrench, and found them to be pretty rude. Email me for any more questions. Thanks.

:EDIT:
MAX'S EUROPEAN AUTO LLC

Also would like to ad that I have had poor experiences with Ken Garff Mercedes on State St. and would not reccomend them. Never replied to any of my emails and always give me the run around when I call them. Rude and uncaring customer service is their bottom line.

Jason - I've been using Werner's since I bought my 240 D a few months ago. If you've had any experience with Werner's, I'd sure like to know how you think it compares with Max's. Buzz

Buzz, I was told by a long-time (24 years) Werner customer that Werner himself sold the business a few years back, and the current shop raised their prices a lot and turned, in the words of the guy who told me, "from a mechanics shop to a parts-changing shop". Werner didn't like retirement, so he founded a new shop with his son Melvin called German Car Service close to the 45th south exit on I-15. Werner died in 2001, but Melvin has kept up the shop with his partner Jeff.

I haven't verified any of this, I've only dealt with the Werner's auto sales guy, who seems decent.

German Car Service

I've had Werner and now Melvin do most of the work on my cars over the years. (I do the "routine" maintenance myself) He did a compression check on my latest Benz before I purchased it as well as a refrigerant changeover to R134a after the sale. Quite honest and the only shop I've delt with that will let you look under your car when up on their lift.

The 220D I owned had a Werner rebuilt engine in it (just before he sold the shop with his name on it) and was running extremely well with 175K on it when body rot did it in. Melvin told me that engine is in another 220D and quite happy now.

Sorry to hear that Werner left us. He used to be my telephone go-to guy from here is SD. Was very generous & forthright in his advice for a guy from the boonies--as far as MB help. I'd surely go to them first.
