i have a 1987 190e 2.3, 5 speed and im looking to ehance it. What can i do to make it go faster or get better response.
i have bosch super copper core init now. they seem to lessen the cars performance and also they seem to burn more fuel. i have them gapped at .032.
when i had platinum +4 they seem to work beeter and definitely better gas mileage.
what about beru silverstone been hearing
alot about them?
Also tell me what i can do to make filters
wires, cap rotor, etc.
What is the best perforance spark plug for that car?

thanks

hi!
The 2.3 8v is a misaligned engine that can easily produce 160-170 h.p. with relatively minor modifications. I would advise that you start with a K&N filter. About 60 bucks good for 1-2 h.p. at the top end. I would advise you replace your cat with a Random High Flow cat and eliminate the center resonator. If the compression is good...which you should check before doing anything you should try a GTC or Shrick cam. Ih the car has over 100K I would pull the head...get a good valve job and port match to the mercedes gaskets. Supersprint has a nice stainless header for the car but the jig is off a little so I would fit it to the head off of the car. Otherwise port match the exhaust mani. You may have to cut the center support andf reweld it. Bosch wires are fine. Don't waste the cash. Pull your injectoors and check them or replace with a matched set (Marren Motorsports) Email me... I have messed around with these motors for about 10 years... tried a bunch of things

Before doing all those mods you may want to consider the following: price out every mod you plan on, figure out what the realistic gains will be total, add any applicable labor not DIY, and figure how long this will take.

Then price out what you could get for your car and what better performing models are going for. I hate to be a cynic, but the 2.3 8v is just not much motor to start with. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy tinkering as much as anyone, but unless you are at a point where you are A) going racing, B)are at the performance top of the lineup (500E's, C36/43's, 16v's, etc), or it actually makes financial sense to tweak rather than trade its been my experience you are better off selling the current one and buying a faster one. (then tinkering with it!)

Hope this helps...Lee
