AMG Throttle body!

Came across this picture and got really interested in this intake. Has anyone seen this before? Do you guys have any information on this intake? I have a 6.9 that I'd like to fit something like this. Any help or info would be most aprecciated.

Thank you

Is that an M100 motor? 6.3 or 6.9? That car may have different fuel injection work done as well. Are the intake plenums that much different than the factory plenums? Looks about the same as jamming a cone air filter on the factory intake in place of the regular air filter, though the top of the plenums where the intake runners are looks different.

It's a 6.9 motor that was tweaked in the 1980s by Barry Taylor, of the now-defunct AMG West in the California Bay Area. Looks to me like a 6.3 throttle body with custom intakes in generally a 6.3 configuration. The 6.3 is not the best-breathing motor, particularly at high RPMs. Taylor should have taken a lesson from the American iron hot-rodders who use much better intake systems that provide far more HP...

Cheers,
Gerry

Ahhh, a classic "BT AMG" job. Has this one exploded yet or is it still roadworthy?

Thank you guys for the feedback! So, I shouldn't try anything like 6.3 intake on 6.9s for what I have understood. I guess I'll have to try the head work and headders with the original K jetronic fuel injection and see what happens. Hope it can feed something like 380 or 400hp. Any thoughts?

Thank you

Nilo

You'd be better off sticking with the K-Jet system (for its simplicity and reliability) and increasing the compression and/or displacement of the stock block. I'd bump the stock 8:1 compression of the 6.9 engine to 10 or 10.5:1, and perhaps overbore it out to 7.2 or 7.3 liters. With some optimization on the intake and the addition of exhaust headers, it ought to get you EASILY up to the 400+ HP level (remember that Euro-spec 6.9s were 286 HP). Just the compression bump ought to be good for 50-75 HP, and the displacement another 50.

If you were to add nitrous, that would (conservatively) add 100+ HP depending on how wild you wanted to take it. For short bursts, 500+ HP wouldn't be a bad thing, even on an absolute sled such as the 6.9.

My advice is to RUN AWAY from the 6.3 and 6.9 as fast as you can if you want a high-performance car !!! Either get yourself into an M117-based 560SEL or 560SEC, or an M119 based 500E or 500SL. These engines are far cheaper and EASIER to modd into absolute monsters, and both are as bulletproof as the M-100. Furthermore you get a couple of generations of refinement and far quieter, smoother and more efficient running, plus an engine that responds quite well to modding.

Just my two cents. M-100 cars are among the most expensive automotive money pits that man has ever devised. You won't be disappointed with a 560SEL -- it is superior to a 6.9 in every conceivable way.

Cheers,
Gerry

Gerry, Would you care to elaborate on the easy mods to the 119 engines ? I have a couple and the 400 could use a little more stuff.

Your best bet is to go to the www.500ecstasy.com site and check out the bulletin boards there.

There are various chip, intake, exhaust, nitrous-oxide and other mods that can be performed to increase HP on the M119s.

Cheers,
Gerry

Thank you very much for your advice and time Gerry. I'm sure that a 560SEC or SEL is way more efficient than my 6.9. Tha thing is I'm really in love with her! It is a euro spec car, has the 8.8 compression engine and the 286hp. I'll try what you suggested but the increased displacement. Something around 380hp should do it! Maybe latter a 500E or C43AMG!

Thank you

Nilo

You could also supercharge your motor for some huge power gains. I was getting over 400 hp from my US 560 SEC with 7 psi of boost and no intercooler. I can't imagine what your motor would do with some forced induction.

Super SEC, that seems way too radical to me at first sight. Actually I like the idea, but I'm afraid of the technical problems I might find in the way. How did you solve the K jetronic under pressure problem? Do you have any photos of your engine bay? Maybe it's an alternative... the gains are huge! 400hp on a 126 sounds fantastic!

Thank you

Nilo

I just increased the differential pressure and it handled the extra air just fine. I do have pictures but I have them on another computer. I'll take some more as soon as I install my new cog drive.
