Dont forget the new C-Class will have a more sporting chassis than the current one (allegedly better than the 3 series) and it'll have a 3.2 V6 Kompressor with around 340bhp. ;-)

The game moves on, and the stakes rise !

Last I heard the next AMG engine in the works was a supercharged 3.2 liter V6 making approx 340HP with a very flat torque curve. What they are going to call it is anyone's guess but the Cxxx Kompressor is probably similar if they stick with a powerplant of that kind. MB was talking about putting the regular 3.2 V6 in the SLK. In any case, it sounds like fun.

Hope this helps...Lee

PS the 340HP M3 topic has been discussed before, a search on the shop forum should turn it up.

Well, the new buz is that the 3.2 Kompressor will show up in the SLK, C-class, and maybe even the CLKs. Except, insiders estimate a rating of 400bhp rating. That would crush the M3's 340 if it can get the car more sporty!!!

Also, a base engine is suppose to be a 2.4 V6 with 170hp rating. Right now, we have told the dealer to reserve one for me for my mother. Also other features might include 4matic, with a system more like the M-class, which will be maufactured at the M-class plant, and transported to Germany for cheaper costs.

Check it out. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/9323/r1702004.htm

I think the cars from both companies are very exciting, but why has M-B always been so scared of manual transmissions? (current SLK excepted) Yeah, I know modern computerized automatics are more efficient than manuals yada yada, but I just find any car, from a worn out 240D to a V-12 Jag E-type, to be more enjoyable and involving to drive with a manual. Any thoughts?

My guess would be US vs Euro market. Yes there are some in the US who must have manuals and BMW has done a good job of snatching them up. On the other hand, MB only makes so many of its factory hot-rods and it can usually sell all of the ones it can make with an automatic.

Just my opinion...Lee
